An area maybe hit the hardest in the Asheville area being told by the local police to evacuate 30 minutes later retracting that info.

And this wasn't in the midst of the storm like the warnings the other day. They had the opportunity to double check the report before sending that out.

If people are on iOS18 they can text via satellite. How can we spread this?

Not sure but include the oldest phone with 18 that it’s available on. It is probably fairly automatic, but many may not have upgraded or have a charge at this point.

quote:

With the satellite capabilities on iPhone 14 or later, you can stay connected with friends and family over iMessage or SMS even without cellular or Wi-Fi service. When texting people on iMessage, you’ll also be able to use key features like sending and receiving messages, emoji, and Tapbacks. And all your iMessages sent over satellite are end-to-end encrypted.1

Messages via satellite will be available in iOS 18 along with our existing satellite features in the United States and Canada on iPhone 14 and later. A carrier plan is required. SMS messaging via satellite is available on supported carriers. SMS message rates may apply.

From a helicopter vid I saw, one end of lake lure is just filled up with debris. You’ll need to get barges out there with heavy equipment on them or something. How you get a sizable barge out onto that lake given the tight and winding roads? I have no idea

Can someone tell me which Cajun Navy is the real one? United or the one with 2016 at the end? Or does it even matter?

Admins thanks for keeping this pinned. This is one of the greatest domestic natural disasters perhaps ever.
I am absolutely dumbfounded at the lack of coverage being given to this.
Please keep this stickied.

Too many white people that died/lost everything in small towns. Not sexy enough for the media to properly cover, unfortunately

I, too, thank them for keeping this pinned. My sister & husband are in their sixties and live a few miles northeast of Asheville, on a mountain. We didn't hear from them for a day and a half. She said it was far worse than they expected, and she thinks a tornado clipped the ridge they live on. Their Starlink equipment was swept away by the winds, and they lost 3/4 of their trees. Two of them are on the house. No idea when they'll get help.
She finally got cell service back this morning, but they have no electricity, internet, or running water. Thankfully, they're from Louisiana and knew how to stock up for a hurricane. They've got a generator and supplies to last for a few days, and then they'll need help if they can't get out.

It's starting to be covered more now, but I think some of that is due to the outrage of them not covering it at all most of the day today. And let's address the elephant in the room. We all know why it's not being covered.

It's not political or racially motivated if it's true. If this was Eastern North Carolina counties such as Hertford, Bertie and Halifax counties (all black majority counties), it would flat out be getting Hurricane Katrina level coverage. Since it impacts Western North Carolina, including counties like Buncombe, Henderson, Haywood, Madison and Rutherford counties (all white majority counties), the mainstream media could care less.

The mainstream media could care less that these areas are suffering because they are mostly white. Some of the media might actually enjoy it since it's a lot of people who are conservative / Trump supporters. It's sick but it's true.

I too also thank moderators for keeping this pinned. As Americans, we will have to force the mainstream media to cover this tragedy. We will not let them ignore it, as much as they want to.

I think I’m going to try to consolidate some donations this week and possibly make a trip toward this/next weekend. I assume can’t go wrong with cases upon cases of water if that’s all I end up with.

Last thing I want to do is get in the way of anybody or try to get somewhere inaccessible. Is there some sort of rendezvous point where supplies are being brought in and then sent out to the harder to access areas? I assume guys like the Cajun navy will run out of supplies. Someone like me could meet to reload them so they don’t have to go all the way out somewhere to find stores that are open/stocked up.

Just not sure of the best logistical way to go about it. If anybody has any ideas shoot them my way

Go to Bristol hang a right take 421. You may want to take him a generator, if you want I can swing by harbor freight and grab one and extra oil & meet you on I 40 if you want. Take some cash make sure you have fuel for him but most importantly your vehicle to get out.
