The hotel industry loves this

I don't think Moreno and Morrell give a shite about someone who is renting out their house.
What a lot are objecting to is "homes" being built by corporations for the purpose of STR exclusively....like the places being built by the old Brown's Dairy.

quote:No, the properties are owned by private individuals (or LLCs) who list them on AirBNB or VRBO. AirBNB or VRBO gets a cut of all the bookings made through their site.
Question, does AirBNB or VRBO actually own the properties or are they more of a middle man that connects "renters" with "owners".
quote:Non-commercial means anything in a residential zoned neighborhood. Not whether the owner is a corporation or mom and pops. A lot of mom and pops STR owners put the property under an LLC anyway for tax and liability purposes. And most are renting out an entire house, not just a spare bedroom or backyard guest house. Not sure how the new proposed law would affect renting out a spare room/unit at a house occupied by the owner
So banning non-commercial STR's, will stop corporations. Seems it stops "mom and pop" owners that might have an extra unit to rent out which in turn actually helps corporate STR's

Key here is - "non-commercial". Want to guess who's filling their coffers?

STR does not raise property values. STR is a biggie issue for lots of neighborhoods. I am betting this is a negotiating tactic to get some agreement on restrictions.
They didn’t pull this issue out of thin air people from all over the city have been complaining for a while.

Exactly why STR’s aren’t allowed in certain neighborhoods

They don’t want VRBO and Air BNB listing short term rentals of houses owned mostly by individuals but are completely fine with allowing corporations such as Black Rock and the Bill and Melinda Gates Trust to buy up properties and list them as long term rentals?

Tax paying law abiding companies.
Ok.

To have a commercial STR you need to have your property zoned commercial
Thank you. I was not thinking of the property zoning but as the Ownership.

So STR's should be banned, because they are cheaper, better, and more convenient?
Should we outlaw all human advances, if it hurts an established industry?
We should outlaw all electric vehicles.
Electric freezers put the ice delivery dude out of business.
Think of the poor ice delivery guy!!!

Street fentanyl is cheaper than legal pain killers.
Should make it legal.

Funny how this isn’t the case much any more.

I don’t see what it is hurting? All it does is raise property value which then drives revenue for the city. I’m assuming the hotels are in their ear.
Do short term rentals pay hotel/motel taxes?
Those are recurring sales based taxes instead of just income.
Also, some of that money is used for things like the Superdome and Convention Center.

The zoning issues are a problem. This is coming from the "hospitality" industry that can't complete with their shitty overpriced hotel rooms.
How to solve the issue of safety in communities and common sense regulation? No idea.

STR are killing people???
Well that changes everything!!
I had no idea that Gladys' 1 bedroom ranch-style on AirBnB was causing the deaths of thousands.
Arrest Gladys!!!

I actually agree that STR should pay the hotel/motel taxes because that’s exactly what they are, decentralized hotel/motel rooms.
