It's a stupid thing to complain about but I can see where she is coming from in principle. If she doesn't like it then I can understand and respect that, but that is between her and her SO. If she wants to make the case to the public at large, that's good too.
But if a female isn't bothered (or even *gasp*, likes...) a male to put his arm around her, that also works.
