Passed by the old Sharlo Apts on Brightside last night at about 11 pm (don't recall the current name of the apartment complex), and there were at least 5 police cars and an ambulance there. Didn't stick around to see what was going down. Anyone have the scoop? I assume someone got shot or kilt.

Brightside is transitioning to becoming the new "Gardere Ln". All of those apartment complexes, which were really nice 20 years ago, are complete dumps now.

It'd be more surprising to me if you said that there wasn't heavy police activity at Sharlo Apts

Having to drive down both roads quite often, I'll say it is not quite Gardere just yet. The western part of Brightside towards the river (including River Bend) is still decent. You can't really say the same about Gardere.

Nice is relative. Sharlo certainly wasn't some luxury complex back then. But it wasn't a full on dump either. I went to many parties, mostly at the homes of sorority girls, back then. They certainly were nicer than my Tiger Land apartment

Today, Derrick Todd Lee probably wouldn't be safe walking around that area

I lived in Sharlo from 1982-83 and it was the most desirable apartment complex anywhere near LSU (it had just been built). 40 years in Baton Rouge is close to a death sentence for commercial construction.

I lived on Stonehenge off Brightside.. Before that I lived on Gardere.. This was in the late 80's... So Brightside has gone the way of Gardere? If true that's sad.. That area was nice...

I lived at Brightside Manor back in 1986-87. Mike Papajohn lived across from us. Great spot back then. Can’t imagine what it’s like now.

I was your neighbor. They were not nice, but they were decent, safe and definitely not ghetto. The Sharlo pool in the mid to late 90's was fun. This was before all the new lazy rivers and nice pools at the newer complexes.

Make Tigerland Great Again!

If I had Elon Musk money, I'd buy all the properties and start new.
