Randy, anxiety about one's health is very normal. Obsessing about it and constantly thinking about it, to the point that you make yourself feel physically ill, is not normal.

I suggest finding a psychiatrist or psychologist to discuss this issue with. They may want to put you on medication. Try it if they make a good case for it, because it sounds like it could help you.

In the meantime, take care of your health in the ways you can (diet, exercise, relaxation) and stay the frick off of google and webMD.

Appreciate all the responses.

I definitely relate to the chasing your tail thing. I've self diagnosed cancer on about 4 different parts of my body as well as waiting for the impending heart attack/stroke/aneurysm to come at any moment.

I don't ever take medicine but I had been thinking if maybe like a week's worth of something could help just to get me out of the cycle of that being the first thing I think about when I wake up every morning? Sounds like that may be what worked for St. Aug.

I have a appointment coming up in a couple of weeks for my annual physical for insurance purposes so if it's still going on I guess I'll discuss with the doc then.

Honestly reading this thread has helped a lot knowing that I'm not totally crazy and that other people have had the same experiences and weren't dying.

Thanks again.

I have General Anxiety Disorder as well. And it is based on hypochondriac thoughts. I once diagnosed myself with MS, Lupus, and a Glioblastoma in the matter of a couple hours. Anxiety / Panic attacks are no fun and can be quite debilitating. Most common prescription will be an SSRI to take daily. And your doctor should give you some xanax as well, because you will still have the attacks albeit less frequently. Xanax will knock that out in 10-15 minutes. Works for me. Plus the SSRI makes you last longer in bed. Win, Win!

Randy, if you want to try a supplement that might help with anxiety or OCD features, try L-theanine or inositol. Read the Amazon reviews if you're interested.

Health related anxiety? Just over 3 years ago I had an anxiety attack then after that, I had 2 more within 6 months. Before and within the time between my other attacks sleep was an issue for me. I ended up having to go to the doctor and was prescribed something.

Isn't health related anxiety just fear of dying? How do you come to terms with that?

I had chest pain for 6 months, I knew it wasn't cardiac as it was reproducible with movement. It was most likely costochondritis, but most bouts last just weeks. I had a CT, and they found some scar tissue that could be cancerous. It was so small they said to wait a year to see if it grows, but they put my nerves at ease when they told me they had them too, and they were even larger, and it's just scar tissue from pollution. I definitely had anxiety from worrying about what it could be and reading web md. The chest pain has gone after a year. Somehow I have no anxiety about the nodules once the told me to not worry, I try not to think about it. I will get a CT in a few months

Deep, long breaths through your stomach have scientifically proven to help anxiety. It helps me a ton when I get anxiety trying to go sleep. The more focused you are on your breathing, the more it will help. Exhale as if you are trying to fog up a mirror.

Frustrated.

After this thread the other day I had a really good afternoon/evening and was having a good morning yesterday and then around lunch time I had a pretty good dizzy spell. Probably the second worst since this all started and that kind of threw me for a loop again. Then I found out an acquaintance, early 40s, passed away yesterday after a battle with pancreatic cancer and that didn't help.

Woke up with it on the brain big time this morning. I just went and got some of that L-theanine stuff so we'll see if that helps any.

Kinda, except that you convince yourself you actually are dying.

Trying to figure that out.

No. Everybody fears death to an extent. The anxiety is when you are convinced you know why you are gonna die. Fixate on some symptom.

I always feel better after exercise, BUT if you are in the middle of a full blown panic, a public place exerting yourself ain't the place to be. But if you just feel a bit down or slightly "anxious about being anxious" a workout always helps me.

You got to decide when to see a doctor. The correct answer is easy. When your life is appreciably shitty, that's when. You will wind up depressed. If you aren't there already. Depressed about being anxious is no way to live.

Xanax. If it doesn't go away on its own and you are left with 2-3 Xanax that you don't need, then don't worry about it. Get on with life. If you run out of medicine and still feel on the edge of shitty, see your doctor again. You need an SSRI and a lesser benzo. Like Valium or Klonipin. They are all addictive, but Xanax is the worst. Always see people who take it long term end up on "bars". I can't wrap my head around how stoned 2mg of Xanax must be.

Also, YouTube the breathing exercises. You will find a lot of click bait bullshite that are just selling you a book or a technique? frick that stuff. For now just find some easy videos.

Bumping this thread as the information has helped me greatly. I had bad health anxiety 5 years ago after my parents divorce and with time it went away. Now, with the birth of my amazing 4 week old son, anxiety is heightened with me hyperfocusing on health because I want to be there for wife and baby(hopefully more babies one day!). Went to doctor and they did every blood test, physical, etc. and said i'm in perfect health but I convince myself I am not.

I'm in therapy and it is helping immensely but I am very worried about taking an SSRI and how that may effect me even more negatively. So for the time being I am attacking my anxiety and facing it head on to put it down.

Anyways, thanks for this post and letting me vent.

A couple of years ago I went into the ER after having chest pains, light headedness, numbness in my hands and feet. I thought it may have been heart related. They said it was just anxiety.

I knew I was experiencing anxiety but I thought it was due to the symptoms. Turns out it was the other way around.
