it is probably worth about $10,000 in salary.

Way higher. The average Blue Cross plan with family on it will cost around $1,000 in premiums alone per month. It will also have a max family out of pocket around $13,200 and usually a deductible of $500 to $1,000 a person. So that's at least $25k per year if you end up having to max it out.

Hope you don't have to stay in the hospital, or require any type of surgery. You are gonna get raped

i always hear this, but isnt there a way to negotiate down those ridiculous prices to the contract rates that insurance companies actually pay.
my son was in nicu for 2 weeks. bill was originally 78,000. after insurance discounts i had to pay 2,500, insurance paid 16,000. it was unreal.

In 2018, my company had a high deductible health plan where:

Premiums = $233/month
Deductible = $8,000
Once deductible met, everything covered 100%
Company contributes $1,300 annually to HSA
Company cost = $1,898/month

For 2019, the changes are
Premiums = $169/month
Deductible = $10,000
Once deductible met, 30% co-insurance kicks in
Max out of pocket = $13,500
Company contributes $1,300 annually to HSA
Company cost = $1,370/month

Your employer chose to switch to a cheaper plan. So that is what happens. Your premium went down, so with that the deductible and max out of pocket go up.

You are saving $768 a year on premiums and the company is saving $6336 a year. It would have been nice for your company to give you some of that $6336 savings in the form of an increase in HSA contribution.

My deductible is like $300

That won't qualify for an HSA plan, but

and I pay under $70 a month.

Who needs one if that's all you pay.

So your company is saving over $500 a month, and isn't upping the contribution to the HSA? Your employer is garbage.
