He was in sales, which means he spent, I would assume, as much time off the rig as he did on it. When you’re a rig worker, you’re on the rig the entire time until your hitch is up, and then you go home; you’re not spending time sightseeing in Lagos.
My company does a lot of business in Nigeria and we haven’t had any issues.

See my last post. This is super uncommon, we the rig workers are on the rigs, out in the open water, with guards protecting the rigs from attack and support of the military of the local governments who will respond with extreme prejudice if someone were to attack their billion dollar oil infrastructure and foreign investment.

Just left...nice place.
Can you please help us out with the living room furniture? I’m really tired of not having any furniture in the living room.

I know. It was sort of a tongue-in-cheek post.

Bring printed copies of the corkifesto with you and leave a copy on each guy's bunk for night time reading.

You'll be alright, Cork. You have experience in the field. Just go out and do your job.
Hope all is well with you.

Since plenty of people are asking job related questions in this thread I figured I'd give it a go too
Are there any O&G jobs for someone with a masters in physics? Like I said before I'm really not that familiar with the industry, but I'll be graduating in about a year and at this point I'm still not sure what direction I want to take my career in. I want to keep all of my options open.

Wireline
We had a field engineer who I believe had a PhD in nuclear physics. He worked for NASA prior to getting into O&G.

A lot of downhole tools contain radioactive materials. The regs are pretty strict on those. I’m betting someone with nuclear physics training could get on with Schlumberger or Baker or Halliburton.

I have a degree in physics, and was offered a job by Schlumberger in the past. For many of their positions they look at engineering, math, physics, or chemistry degrees as sort of equivalent, basically a indication the person has the aptitude to be trained for the job. I passed on the job because the work schedules were brutal.

You should buy a $70k truck and expect a from Jody to your house while you're gone.

Radiation safety stuff usually requires a degree/certification in health physics. Lots of petrophysicist and geophysicist jobs.

You don't need a nuclear physics degree to run the neutron/density tools.

As far as office jobs yes, my wife is a geoscientist and has a degree in math and masters in applied physics. Both of us are oil and gas folks, albeit office folks.

Have you made it out to the Don Taylor yet?
