We are headed down this weekend for a cheer comp in Kenner, any recommendations on a good place to eat? I haven't been to the New Orleans area in 20 years, any travel tips form you guys, places to go or avoid?
Also, me and a some of the other dads are bourbon drinkers, are there any liquor stores we should hit up?
Also, Our group pays homage to this site: Bama Bourbon and Whiskey Society (BAMA BAWS).

I thought this was deja vu. I found your previous thread from October....
Yeah, me then too! We took yalls advice and are staying beside the convention center. That Hilton Garden has horrifying reviews, so we are a little worried. Half our group said frick it after reading the reviews and are staying at a Marriott further away.

Take I-12 to Causeway or I-55 and then loop back around on I-10. That or drive really fast through Nola East.
Eta: last few places I’ve actually sat down to eat were Laketown Bar and Grille, Don Jose’s Grill, and Drago’s(actually in Metairie). All pretty decent.

Zuppardos often has good store pick bourbons.

River ridge spirits is near Kenner they have good store picks typically. Dorignac’s also - both run FB pages with info.
Drago’s is hard to beat - easy for a large group, prices are decent and they have all the classics + amazing oysters.

Do you want Italian, poor boys, or Mexican?

Hit the new Star Fuel store on Williams just south of the intersection with Vintage, surprisingly nice Bourbon selection.
Like previously said, Zuppardo's. Every so often they have a Bourbon tasting event.
Swamp Room for a Burger. Austin's or Vincent's for a nice night out. Drago's aint what it used to be. Acme on Vets is still good but pricey AF. 1/2 doz oysters, the Butter Bean plate and a drink was $40 last week.

If you're in Kenner, Ricky's Discount Liquor on Williams Blvd.
Huuuge selection, great prices, and really nice people who work there. I live in NO but always stop by there when I visit my parents in Kenner.

Bring someone who speaks fluent spanish if you're in Kenner for more than a few hours. It's name changed to little Honduras. Ricky's Discount Liquor always has good bourbon.

I'm headed down tomorrow for that as well. Plan to stop at Middendorf's in Manchac on the way back home for lunch. Kenner Seafood is pretty good, if you're looking to stay in Kennah, brah.

Thanks for all the info guys!
We survived Kenner and NOLA.
Ricky's Liquor store was great, so was Total Wine.
We stayed at Hilton Garden right beside the Ponchetrain Center, the rooms were shite holes, the lobby area was nice and that's where we all hung out.
Left there after Sunday and went to the Cambria House for the rest of our time, that place was cool!
Ended up eating at Fisherman's Cove, service was terrible but the food was okay. Our waiter was clearly on meth (that seemed to be pretty common down there).
Went to NOLA and stayed in the warehouse district, found that as long as you stayed on the river side of Bourbon St., it wasn't that bad, as soon as you pass there it gets pretty sketchy.
Found a nice little restaurant (Estrella's) while walking around Monday night, food was great, owner was awesome, I'd highly recommend this place if you haven't been.
**Bonus...we ran into Wee-Man while walking around Tuesday afternoon before heading home.
