Head Of Controversial Mississippi (Ole Miss/Oxford) Narcotics Unit Resigns

LINK Sorry about linking to buzzfeed. IIRCC, I started a thread about this narcotics unit a while back.
Have any of you had a run-in or story about the metro narcotics unit?

The head of the Lafayette County, Mississippi, Metro Narcotics unit, Captain Keith Davis resigned from his position last week, following a series of BuzzFeed News stories about the unit’s use of college-age informants.
Davis told BuzzFeed News that his last day with Metro Narcotics was Sept. 30, which was the same day BuzzFeed News published a story about an inmate in prison for murder who claims he killed his 18-year-old victim because he believed him to be an informant for Metro Narcotics.
Metro Narcotics is a multi-jurisdictional unit overseen and funded jointly by the city of Oxford, Lafayette County, and the University of Mississippi. A series of BuzzFeed News stories this year, beginning in April, detailed how the drug unit targets college-age locals for low-level drug charges and coerces them into working as confidential informants by exaggerating the legal consequences they may face.

Surely to God he knew the first rule to drug dealing: snitches get stitches. Just an unbelievably stupid idea and inevitably was going to get a student killed.

Holy shite I have met that dude.
His unit did some seriously sketchy shite when I was at Ole Miss using cameras, wires, and pressuring uninformed college kids to do whatever he asked.
He would lie to kids and say they're going to jail for small amounts of weed if they didn't wear a camera to bust their friends. Misdemeanor amounts of weed that would be nothing more than a fine. He would just straight lie to them and of course they'd be terrified, not want to tell their parents (who would hire a lawyer or know better) and they'd do it.
ETA:
I know of 3 cases off the top of my head where this happened to people I knew...on both sides of the coin. One girl, a cheerleader, went to jail for giving her friend 1 adderall during finals that he begged for and was charged with a felony. He wore a button camera because he got caught with something unrelated that was insignificant but they told him he was facing big time.
One time, I got pulled over sober being the DD and he tried to force me to let him search my car after one of his units called him to the scene. I kept saying no and he said if I didn't I'd go to jail. Then of course I was let go. I had nothing in my car to my knowledge, but wasn't about to risk him finding something I forgot about or a joint a friend dropped or something. He brought the dogs out and then said "you're lucky my dog's tired, get the frick out of here".
I was being a responsible DD for friends. It was absurd and sadly one of a half dozen times I got pulled over sober in college for no reason just to see if I was drinking or had drugs (never was/did).
Oxford cops do whatever the frick they want.

Sounds like the West Alabama Narcotics Unit. They do the same shite....bust a bunch of frat daddys and students for dealing weed and they act like they are taking down the Sinaloa Cartel

They brought basically a swat unit to bust down a door of a buddy because they got him on camera selling a gram of weed to his friend's little brother.
Guy wasn't even a weed dealer. He just agreed to sell the kid some of his personal stuff after the kid begged him to (because the pressure from the cops to get something on camera).
Its unreal up there.

My family and friends are too smart to have to worry about this type of nonsense.

Agree.
Some bad news though, Alex Fauver is the new interim head and he was this guy's underling. He will keep doing the same shite. They truly are life ruiners for things such as a single joint in the pocket of a college kid.
ETA:
Meanwhile, houses rented by university students continue to get robbed by "Memphians" and other outsiders every holiday when they're back home with family and I've never heard of a single one being caught.
