There it is. The straw man.

How about we don't want that shite to happen but say it does, we want to be able to defend it if at all possible. When I'm sitting in a crowded theater, I hope somebody has a concealed firearm vs nobody having shite on them. Just in case the unthinkable happens and some nut job comes in opening fire.

I've not seen anything different in this thread that is a reasonable way to curtail firearm violence

Because there isn't a reasonable way aside from what's already in place. It's another form of the liberty vs security argument - after a certain point the security gained becomes incrementally insignificant. And thanks to the internet, social media and regular media sensationalism, we have a situation were firearm shootings by many measures are down, even way down, but we react like it's some epidemic necessitating a call to action.

Wrong.

There are disgusting, vile human beings of all walks of life in America.

Absolutely. However, the statistics show that violent crimes are committed more frequently by certain demographics.

quote:

Last I checked, there wasn't a black man running around committing a mass murder.

You're right. White males commit more mass shootings than any other demographic. However, mass shootings are a tiny blip on the radar of all homicides committed with a gun in this country. So, in the grand scheme of things, preventing mass shootings will do little to decrease the amount of violent crime in this country.

So

He posted a chart that said America has 3.7 murders per 100,000 residents. The next closest is Italy at 0.68. So it raised the question how can we control who and how people obtain guns
I think you believe that our murder rate is high because guns are leading people to kill.

I would love to try an experiment:

Magically eliminate all guns in the Chicago area, and see how that impacts the murder rate. I bet it would have zero impact.

Maybe the ranking should be around the "developed world" instead of "world". Of course piss poor countries with no resources/jobs/money have high crime. That is why they want to come here.

Now if we turn the agrument to be only focused on developed countries (aka non-third world countries) then yes; USA is pretty bad in terms of gun murder rate.

I haven't read this thread, but will share some of my opinions.

Machine guns should be easy to purchase by law abiding citizens.
Background checks should be repealed.
Concealed carry should be be legal everywhere in the US without a permit.
Citizens should be free to purchase handguns in any state without going through an FFL holder.
Guns should be available to order via mail.

PS - Gun ownership is THE fundamental right for many people in the US. They simply will not give up their arms, no matter what laws are passed. it is the line in the sand for many and you can read into that what you will.

The impact would be that the crime scene photos would be much much more graphic. Gun shot wounds do not have chit on knife fatalities. Hell most knife attacks compared to gun deaths would look worse to the layman.

I know what it's about. It's about gun control, in lieu of murder control. It's a fallacy.

HOWEVER, there needs to be stricter laws set in place that make it harder for people to obtain weapons and ammo. Yes, I know Wal-Mart and Bass Pro have background checks, but a Wal-Mart background check and a Police background check are two totally different things.

Stop fooling yourself buddy, you aren't for the 2nd amendment and you don't know shite about a 4473.

That's why I own my own firearm correct? I mean, I must not be for the 2nd amendment at all simply because I feel that we need to make it harder for your normal every day person to be able to purchase a gun. I mean, I guess I am glad the most recent mass shootings that have reached the news were by criminals who bought guns off the black market/drug trade. Oh wait, they were average joes with no history of anything that easily passed a pathetic background check. Give me a fricking break. The sooner you idiots wake up and realize that the background check is pretty shitty overall and doesn't encompass anything outside filling out the aforementioned 4473. From the time I found the gun I wanted to the time I walked out of the store I would say it took no more than maybe 20 minutes. The process in place is hilariously setup to fail.
