Its funny you say that because anytime my mother flies into DFW and we are driving back to Plano she thinks this is Utopia.
She has lived on the Westbank for longer than I have been alive.
I was just in Houston this past weekend for a wedding. In the Galleria area. If a building is more than 10 years old they scrap it and rebuild. It’s insane the jobs, money, and people that are there. Everything is new and well kept. They have their crime now, but I think if I would move anywhere it would be a suburb of Houston.
That being said, I’m not going anywhere because I married a girl from here.
I do love it here, and I don’t even go into Orleans parish unless It’s for work.

Nobody who leaves Louisiana regrets it. Nobody.

How the frick did they find us?
Stray electrons spinning off from Atlanta! But Tennessee is doing well, overall. Nashville is becoming the biggest city in southern Indiana!

Georgia sucks, go to Tx
Georgia is a lot nicer. It gets really hot here, and they turn the power off in the winter. Georgia would really appreciate your State Income Tax too.

It's usually because they got to choose where they wanted to live vs being born and raised somewhere then got stuck in the poverty cycle.
That said, I've known a lot of people who've moved out of state. Not a single one "misses" Louisiana.

Flower Mound is where we want to move to if we stay in area.

I do miss Louisiana at times, but can't say that I regret leaving.

Portland, OR

Except for the politics, it's a beautiful state. The people there, though, in my experience, are lazy and self-centered.
I tell people if you like the outdoors, you'll enjoy Oregon. Just stay out of Portland.

Unfortunately, New Orleans peaked in the 1960s and 70s. It’s been downhill since. Mr. Bingle has left the building.
Agreed. Probably peaked in the 60s with Saints announcement.
If NOLA had any innocence, Mark Essex took it away along with Upstairs Lounge fire.

I’m in Ocean Springs Ms. I got 2 1/2 feet of water in Katrina. No flood insurance.
Wasn’t going to let that biatch run me off.
This was my home!!
Then the next year insurance hit me.
Was paying 480 a year for fire and wind.
Jumped to 2800. Now 3200.
Flood, which is now required, started at 250 a year
(Grand fathered in) but goes up 10% a year. Heard it will flatten out at 1600.
Knowing what I know now, I would have left.
Working on getting out and moving to in-laws up in Hattisburg. The coast just isn’t the same anymore.

I was sitting here reading this tread earlier today looking out over the mountains and Cook Inlet while watching a brown bear about 20 yards out the window. I miss my old garden, the fruit trees, but honestly, I have no desire to get back. I don’t believe we have had a day in the 80s this year.

We got a new employee who moved here from lets say a really nice place an hour from the beach and an hour from the mountains. I already know he's an idiot for moving here.

I fell for that one too. It lasts about a day then you realize you’re still in the same shite state.

My SO has a job that is niche and specific to here. We can’t move unless he plans to fly back in every other week, which sounds exhausting.
I completely respect the privacy factor and don’t really expect you to tell us, but damn this has piqued my curiosity. Can you give an example of a similar position or something?

The person that down voted you has never even left his hometown. Piggly Wiggly is as good as it gets for him.
