none.

its an irrational, emotional argument based on guilting others for enjoying cheap gas

Not quite

It's a chicken/egg type thing. Cheap gas is great. But it's not great when it's because of a global economic slow down that can hurt the entire U.S. economy.

Which means you are buying shares cheaper than you were before, so that when the economy does recover, you'll make that much more money

Why you looking at the price of oil?

Small oil companies in the last week are up by 1500% from $0.21 per share.

Who was smart enough to invest ?

Right. Save 100 a month in gas for an exchange in your retirement funds getting butchered...makes sense if you don't have any investments like most of the people here I guess

If your investments are good buy more stock when the price is low and it'll recover. You shouldn't worry about it unless you are retiring very soon.

also, petro production has become one of the backbones of our economy

there are 3 reasons why we haven't gone into a full depression post 2008: (1) borrowing/printing about $9-10T (2) tech (3) petro

petro cratering hurts the overall economy. it's not like there is another industry ready to take that place

Do you live in Louisiana? It revolves around the oilfield. From diners to colleges.

Conversely, when the price at the pump was $4.00 it hurt the entire US economy.Major oil companies(Exxon) posted record breaking profits(+ 10 billion dollars) every consecutive quarter for a substantial amount of time.

there is give and take, but we saw tens of billions of dollars of annual investment (Which means jobs and money flowing to people)

now there is a savings in terms of use and that money will flow, but it's likely going to impact the economy at a much lower level

that's why i said there isn't really a replacement industry waiting in the wings. if one emerges that will be great

i'm talking macro-level also. thinking about executive and professional jobs as well as booms like north dakota. this isn't about LA
