I have no clue why it’s popular now, but some people with money think it’ll stay popular with all the permanent pickleball courts being built.

The neighborhood where we are renting has courts and our new subdivision has courts. We have been playing about once a week. Been fun. Just the wife and I .

Not ready for the tour yet

I play tournaments, singles men's doubles and mixed doubles. Currently rated about 4.5, hoping to hit 5.0 next year.

Started playing a couple of years ago during COVID, have barely played tennis since I started.

No.

For the same reason I don’t hunt, fish, or golf.

I work fairly long hours and every off hour is reserved for my family.

Made the decision to prioritize them when the kids were young and now that they are out of the house - I have really enjoyed spending time with my wife again.

If she wanted to play it - I would try it. But I am not spending a bunch of time away from my empty nest best friend.

Oh yeah been in it about 2 years now. About to start entering tournaments.

Wish I could drill and play everyday.

You definitely gotta play with a nice community. I understand why this board hates it since it is mostly Louisiana folks on here.

I started playing back in October of last year. I was hooked from the start.

I now play 6 days a week or more and have even been in a couple of tournaments.

It’s a great game with a stupid name LOL.

People like poking fun at sports they don't find "cool" because they don't play them, but the bottom line is it's an outdoor physical activity and definitely beats doing nothing physical or outside.

They are converting half the basketball courts at the life times here into pickle ball courts
this is the problem

It’s taking away from people who play real sports like tennis and basketball

If people that played "real sports" used the facilities they would not be converted to Pickleball courts.

Yep.

And I'd bet that some of the baws making fun of it because it's not physically demanding are the same ones playing in a softball beer league. Yeah, THERE'S a real high intensity cardio workout for ya

I've lost weight, gained muscle mass, and my reflexes are a lot more honed than before I started playing.

It's not tennis level cardio, but it's no walk in the park either.

If you play and don't find it challenging, play against better players.

And here's my favorite pro pickleball hottie:

I'd take her in bloomers any day.

Tennis courts are empty and people are waiting around to get on pickleball courts.

The sports can coexist though.

I play it regularly at 64. Even in doubles you can get a good workout if you play it competitively. Takes some real strategy also. Easy to learn but hard to master the advanced shots because everything moves fast. Fast reaction times and good eye hand coordination is needed.

Very good sport for older people and the social aspect is good for most people who stay indoors too much.
