Was in the front yard with my brother and buddy when my dad shot his girlfriend in the face in the kitchen. My brother ran inside and then turned right around screaming for us to run. It's a fear that I hope I never feel again.

I’ve been with two family members who died from cancer.
I saw a guy get murdered in the metro NOLA area. It was posted about on the OT about an hour later.

I believe I’ve shared this story on here before, but, I was 17 in high school working as a cashier at a local gas station. I thought a drunk guy was walking in. He fell out at the counter with a snickers bar saying that his blood sugar was low. I called 911 but he had come to almost instantly and refused medical.
He ate his snickers bar sitting down and when he got up he fell back down and out almost immediately. I called 911 again and started chest compressions. First responders got there in 3-5 min. He never came back to and first responders said he probably died before hitting the ground from a massive heart attack.

I worked a Sheriff’s Deputy back in the 90’s. We had a chase that went through 2 parishes and one MS county. Car was a 88 Cutlas and was driving over 100 mph. I was second in chase and car lost control and ran into a church. Driver was decapitated and his head ended up in the first pew of the church.

On 2/23/23 I watched my mom die in my sister's arms as we went to turn her over in her bed to a different side so that she didn't get sores or clots. She was 81 and had been in hospice for about two weeks. She had three UTIs in quick succession in January, and the last one was the final straw. Her body just started giving up. But in reality, she had really been declining a lot over the previous year. She was always fastidious about her appearance, but then she just didn't care anymore. She had no desire to leave her room at the assisted living facility, didn't want to eat anything, and started to have episodes where she just wasn't there, basically. She'd have a good day every now and then, but those became a lot less common than the bad days.
She'd been completely comatose for two days at the point she died. She was just laying in bed, shallowly breathing. We would turn her every so often to keep sores and clots from forming. It was about mid afternoon when we went to do it again, and as soon as we moved her, she stopped breathing at all. No pulse l. She was gone. Watched it happen before my eyes. My sister was kind of unsure at first, but it was obvious. Felt for a pulse and there was nothing
I think her soul had already left her body a few hours before. I was sitting at her bedside, holding her hand, and I don't know how to explain it other than to say I felt something change. Something inside me told me that she was gone. Her body was just working on autopilot those last few hours

My father died in my arms on August 30, 2022
He was battling cancer for a while, and right before he passed he was very restless on the couch … tossing and turning , I just sat there and ran my fingers through his hair until he took his final breath

I sat by my mother's bed and watched her take her last breath.
Knowing she was at peace made her loss almost bearable.

Only at work (medical.) And with my mom, i was there when she was getting CPR but not in the ambulance. I’m not sure when she technically died but driving behind the ambulance, at one point i felt something and i think that’s the actual time.

Twice. My dad peacefully. A street walker in Orange Texas not so much. She was trying to cross I-10 and got dead centered by a 18 wheeler. She basically exploded into pieces. I had nightmares about that shite for a while.

Didn’t see the shooting happen, but once drove past a large police chase and shooting that had just happened. Perp was sprawled out dead in the middle of the road for everyone to see.

That, exactly.

You sure that wasn't in 86 in Clinton? Cause something exactly like that happened in the summer of 86 there. Two dudes in a G body Cutlass slammed into the brick wall of a Church on hwy 67 on the north side of town doing about 100 MPH. It was extra grisly. Happened the night before the peach festival began. The bodies ended up spread all over the inside of the church.

Father - i was 10, called for help for him when he had heart attack, only other person home
Mother - I was 37, she had a DNR.
Random construction worker:
In a staff meeting (2017?), saw scaffolding with a lift attached to it (lifting a sign of some kind) collapse/fall over, smacked his head against parapet wall on this roof visible from the window. Heard the noise looked just in time to see it with about 6 coworkers. One of which used to be an emt so he got up and headed there. Said guy was Dead already when he got there.

Twice. My dad in the hospital when I was in college (2017).Then again just a few months ago. Early morning hours still dark and a truck crossed the hwy median and flipped multiple times right in front of me. One passenger was ejected from the vehicle and died on scene. The other I believe survived but was airlifted to the hospital. I was driving up to Tennessee for a camping trip and hadn't been on the road for an hour when it happened. Drove the next several hours in silence processing what I had just witnessed.

I will never understand people's attraction to violence and therefore death. It's repugnant and against the norm. I've seen many instances of both in my employment. This is an answer not a critique of OP. There's a reason "gallows humor" exists in certain professions. But in reality it's the ability to compartmentalize trauma that allows people to deal with these things.

Yes too many times to count. It’s the most unforgettable thing someone can witness unfortunately.

Do you have some odd fascination with seeing someone die?
Posted on 4/18/25 at 11:13 am to CatsGoneWild
Yes. Both parents. Held my Mom’s hand the entire time. What an honor.
