it's all good...we never stopped loving my father, but he certainly didn't make it easy...we paid off his debts and told his slimeball bookies that if you ever take anymore bets from him, than you're just screwed.

good for you guys. has he been able to stay on the wagon or have you had to pull him out of airports betting on arrivals and departures?

he's dead now, and he never really stopped and we knew it...but, we made sure that he no longer had the means to lose big. so he couldn't hurt anyone but himself...he was quite a crazy character and as good a father as you could hope for under those circumstances...he just kept losing bets and battles with the demons.

i could tell you posters some awesome stories about him.

I used to play strictly Texas hold'em cash games, and I definitely won more than I lost. But I always only ever brought $300 with me. I'd either play til I was up a good bit and leave, or until I was out. Then I'd go home.

There were plenty of times I went home empty handed, but definitely plenty more when I went home with anywhere from $600-1200 bucks in my pocket. I didn't make a killin, but as a kid in college I made enough to live on for a couple semesters.

Two people who were friends of my parents gambled big & lost big in Vegas for years. They were both prominent & wealthy members of the community, so people either overlooked it or assumed they had the money to do it. After they had gotten in way over their heads, having borrowed from loan sharks at exorbitant interest rates to try to win back what they lost, and unable to pay back what they owed, they committed suicide. Both had families with several children. This is a rather small town, so to have this happen twice within a span of a few years was quite shocking.

A dude asked me to borrow $3000ish once. Same guy asked me to borrow $12K about a year later. Asked if he could take a loan and have the bank mail the statements to my house.

He got a great big no from lt on all three.

Don't go into the casino with more than you are willing to lose. And definitely stay clear of the ATM!

I go about twice a month and two out of three trips I will lose ($40-100 down). One out of three I'll leave even or up. I do get free drinks, buffets and four rounds of golf, so it's not too bad of a loss.

Yes, we have a family friend who gambled away his home without telling his wife.

I tend to do worse when actually at the track instead of betting at home.

But, I gamblein such small amounts that it doesn't matter.
