Each and every single one of my former fleet vehicles gets donated to a nonprofit yearly.

The one I donated was running, but do not think it matters. The donation value is no longer a made up inflated number. I believe it is tied to the actual proceeds generated from the ultimate sale, or some other limiting factor. I think I ended up getting less than blue book assigned to the donation.

Yes, an old Ford Ranger pick up. I was back when you did not have to wait for proceeds to determine the write off.

I called bridge house and they said you can take $500 value on the spot or wait till it sells. It runs and good a/c etc just an old altima with 200k miles. Does that sound about right?

I was 17 at the time when I donated my first ride to "lambs farms". No idea what the value was, couldn't have been high.

Gave my wife's old car to her sister when she was down on her luck. Not sure if that counts.

Most of them require that you submit a blue book value or something similar with the car, which is the amount you can write off. However, if the car is in poor condition and the organization ends up scrapping it, you get the value of the scrap. I believe they have something like 2 or 3 years to send you an amended value. If the car is running, I think it's worth it. If it's not, you're going to get a $150 which will work out to somewhere around $50 and probably better to just scrap it yourself.

Donated a 1992 Eagle Talon in BR in 2003. It was running but not worth trying to drive across country to our new jobs. $1200 tax write-off
Also, this year I donated my old 2002 VW GTI to NPR. It was not running. $1300 tax write-off
Din't have to do anything special for either one. Just presented the title. Got a letter in the mail a few weeks later detailing what they sold it for and what I could write-off on taxes.

Yes, a couple of weeks before Kortina.
Turned out to be a good move all the way around, less for me to have to throw away and the car was somewhere on higher ground.
Running, I think I took a $1k or $2k value for it.
My records were gone.

I've donated both my old car and my wife's. Mine went to Bridge House and that was exactly how it went down.
The second one went to a charity here in Austin.
Both cars were over 15 years old at time of donation, so I wasn't really trying to make a buck out of it and deal with the hassle of selling it so this was a good option.
As my wife said, "You don't want to meet the person who wants to buy your old car"

I once gave one of my cars to a girlfriend as her high school graduation / 18th birthday gift. A Porsche.
In the classic sense I suppose it was a non-profit transaction.

Here in Vegas, I just went on the NPR website and filled out the online form. Someone called me within 10 minutes to get details and set up a pickup. Even got a 1-year membership to NPR out of it.
In Baton Rouge I believe I used St. Vincent DePaul

I did once, a running car with 240K miles on it, that looked like crap but started every day.
