Yes. I called a tree service guy I had used before, and his widow answered. He died falling out of a tree. Awkward conversation.

Your response: “Well .... at least he died doing what we loved”

Sort of

A few years ago when I was in school I came home around fall break and was drunkenly eating chicken mcnuggets on the front porch after a party around 2:00 AM. The neighbor across the street (rich coke head) was making all sorts of racket on his back porch (more than the usual racket he makes at all hours). I didn't think anything of it and went to bed. I woke up the next morning and told my dad about all the noise and he tells the guy had a massive heart attack and died on his back porch.

While I don't feel guilty (because there's nothing I could have known or done), it's a weird feeling knowing that I unknowingly heard someone die.

Happened to me IN PERSON. Acquaintance died and one of their friends approached me in a bar and asked where they were at. I broke the news and the person started arguing with me and saying I made it up. I couldn’t convince them until another friend stepped in and confirmed it. Super awkward with everyone just standing there after. I just walked off.

Yep, I've called customers that have died. The last time it happened the husband and wife had both died in a plane crash. I felt like an arse.

I worked in Asia for about 10 years. My first year I was running Japan for our company. My boss ran Asia and lived in Hong Kong. I was on the phone with him one night, and he went out to the balcony because his kids were making a huge racket while we talked. About 5 minutes later, he said "shite. Oh no. shite." Then the phone went dead on me.

I thought the kids must have done something that he needed immediate attention, so I put the phone down and waited for him to call back. He never did.

When I got to work the next morning, there was an email from our president with a title that read "Damian." I knew it was going to be bad before I opened it.

Turns out that he leaned up against his balcony railing, and it gave way on him. He fell 38 floors to his death.

The whole episode haunted me for years.

Before I got my MMJ card, my brother introduced me to this kid.

Youd never think he was into selling weed. Heavier set, nice kid about 21. Selling weed to help with his dads medical condition/medical bills.

Go on Facebook one day, and see the local news that he was lured to a abandoned house and executed by a white trash wanna be gangster.

Kid lived in the country, grew up in a town of less than 1000.

Guy who shot him was a dumb arse and the cops found out very quickly. POS few weeks before shot at someone in IHOP Parking lot when he was the fricking on shift manager.

Feel bad for the kid, but thats the world we live in and the bad part about drug deals.

Hired a guy one time. Was a great worker, we were all super excited to have him. About a week in he doesn’t show up. Called the number he gave us, his wife is sobbing, has to explain he had a heart attack and died the night before. That truly sucked.
