with the knowledge quitting greatly reduces your chances for getting another job but continuing in the same capacity was impossible? What’s the OTs solution to this? I worked a job in retrospect I should have quit. I forced it, and I got a job in part because I didn’t quit. However, the job I got turned into a similar situation.

I ended up looking in the classifieds because of this move.

I was in a job that continually was shite for a year. I almost quit multiple times. I got drunk at Mardi Gras and decided to keep the job after a week off. One of the worst decisions I’ve made was keeping that job.

It turned into nothing more than me trying to keep the job just to make it to another job.

Three professional rules I've learned over the years, applies to both blue and white collar.

1. Shut the frick up and do what you're told.

2. Look around the room to see who the schmuck is. If it's hard to tell, it's you.

3. Don't be a schmuck.

Most garbage men make a very good wage and are fit AF. I wouldn't taunt one. They will snatch your arse and toss it.

What are ‘the classifieds’?

I've definitely been given that advice, but I've also ignored it.

If you can explain why you walked and your explanation resonates with the person thinking about hiring you, I think that's a good thing. Just make sure that's really true.

I walked right out on a job 2 years ago and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

I'm kinda there now. My job stresses me out and infuriates me often. But it wavers too. We just made some big changes that go into affect Monday that should help, but the way that we got here just leaves me upset. I don't need or can afford a gap in employment and finding another job hasn't been easy. I need to get my arse in gear though and start looking.

I've worked for a sociopath before with enormous mood swings that made things miserable. Every man has a breaking point and eventually you can will yourself to seek other possibilities.

Stay employed until you find a better situation. But actively look for one

I do what I love and life is fantastic. Work when I want and play when I want. Needless to say I play quite a bit. Golf trip this week and Gumpville next week! Find your passion!

Potential employers are always more interested in hiring someone who has a job over someone who doesn't.

I once had a great job, with a great title, very nice salary, blah, blah, blah. I hated it so much that I quit and went to work for a yacht broker working on commission. That decision led to some tough financial times but not once did I regret what I had done.

Be happy. And good luck.

My wife and I moved about two years ago and make a little over 3x what we were making before. No subtle brag, just being serious....

...We’re both great at our jobs but fricking hate work now. We’ve considered buying an RV, quitting work and living off of savings for a year or two to decompress.
