, but the notion that anyone would suffer these things to be in a club with Matthew Naquin just perplexes me.

Not all felony charges get a 12 person jury.

. The wife & I have been talking about this since we both were greek at our schools. We're of the mind that maybe we don't want our kids to do this.
Aren’t Greeks predominantly first generation college students? Meaning, if your parents went to college your more than likely not going to be Greek.

the Gruver kid sounds like an immense dickhead tbh. hammered drunk 23 out of his first 28 days on campus and dumb enough to drink enough everclear to be 6x the legal limit.
I agree, but the other cat doesn't sound like a likable person ether. But it doesn't matter, dude is going to the clink.

Maybe if your parents went to college and weren’t greek.

I wasnt asking about hazing deaths.....everyone is well aware those happen
When and where has someone been convicted of negligent homicide due to allege hazing?....you didnt cite any cases, but instead you linked the actual incidents.

plenty of case law going back 30 years for precedent on cases exactly like this one.
I'll wait for you to cite a case "exactly like this one" where someone was convicted by a jury of negligent homicide.

Gruver's roommate said he was only sober 5 of the 28 days he was on campus, and had been at bars almost every night.
That seems pretty weird. It's been a while, but I think I had better things to do in my first 28 days of real adult freedom than sit around sloshed 90% of the time.

For someone who didn’t follow the whole story, why is the naquin guy getting charged instead of others?

I don't understand how they could convict the guy. At no time did anyone say he was held down and forcibly fed alcohol. The Gruver kid could've said F it and left whenever he wanted to.
Yeah, you don’t understand how the whole fraternity thing works, not your fault if you’ve never been in one and present for things like that. No, kid wasn’t being held down but it’s to his disadvantage that he doesn’t submit to the will of the active members that are present and taking part in the hazing. If he refuses, his pledge ship could be put to a vote by an active member who wanted to be an a-hole, especially if they were looking for a reason to get rid of him. A lot of these young guys just starting school get there and desperately want to be a part of something like a fraternity and there’s no limit to what they’ll do to become a member. Because of that, there’s a lot of active members that will use the supposed power to their advantage and “force” the pledge to do things like drink in excess.

We didn't have Facebook back then, and I feel certain I had a better college experience than anyone involved in this story.
I drank in college. I drink now. Being sloppy drunk 90% of the time really isn't compatible with very much else.
