I bet that new roads tax will get dumped into the general fund for awhile to help prop up the budget.
That's fricking brazen and highly illegal.
ETA: Maybe not. I forgot that the road tax is a sales tax, not a property tax. I'm not sure how the collection and distribution of a sales tax works. Property taxes are fairly simple. Sheriff collects money based on total millages and the money collected is spread out to the taxing entities based on what percentage of the total millage is theirs. The city-parish can chose not to levy a property tax or change the amount levied from year to year, but once levied it has to go to the taxing entity it was earmarked for.

Isnt that nonessential?
Sorry you racists don't like black women in charge of your local government. Consider voting next time.

I would like to see some major tax Reductions. BREC has way too many parks, most of that land needs to be sold off. The Library Board is sitting on a huge pile of cash. The libraries are built like palaces, not many people checking out/reading actual books. CATS is running huge buses with hardly anyone riding them. City Parish is trying to repair highways that are State highways and the "new" tax has ground to a halt. What I would really like to see is the Executive branch of the city parish attempt to diversify our economy.
You just pointed out the weakness in our system. The parish, BREC, Library, mosquito, schools, COA, mental health and bus system are all independent and funded by their own taxes. None of these entities are going to vote to reduce their own revenues to help the parish budget. No way.
