When a planet orbits a star, the star's brightness usually reduces by around one per cent.

But KIC 8462852 - nicknamed Tabby's star - has had a reduction of around to 22 per cent, which suggests something huge may be moving past it, according to a study by Louisiana State University (LSU).

It's fun to speculate, but there is 0 chance it's an alien megastructure. It's probably just a bug planet or alot of dust, gas and rock orbiting.

They've already ruled out comets and other common things that would do this so from my understanding they are actually considering something artificial.

LSU has some solid staff in the Astronomy dept. Bradley Schaefer comes to mind. The team he was on won a Nobel Prize for their work. Pretty awesome.

how is there a 0% chance?

There is rarely a 0% chance of anything.

Will we ever know for sure if aliens exist? Probably not. Is it likely they exist? Yes. It's highly improbable that with literally millions of stars, and more planets than stars, that there isn't one more planet with life on it. Is it intelligent enough for space travel all the way to Earth? Maybe, maybe not. I think so, but there's not really any proof

Maybe it's the black hole that sucks up every federal, state, and private dollar that LSU can get its hands on.

Is this about their new cordless vacuum? I think they are a little overrated for their price point. My Shark works just as well.

A couple of theories:

1) God created the heavens and the earth and only put life on this planet, or the life on other planets has come and gone before we even existed

2) the Big Bang happened and the entire galaxy is billions of years old. The chances that another planet would have had the same progression we have had plus about 100-300 years of advanced space technology, and still be within our ~ 6000 year recorded history is astronomically small.

The theoretical aliens could have come during the ice age or the formation of our planet when it was unlivable and passed it right by...if they were even able to travel this far.
