Have any of you had experience with both Methadone and Suboxone?

If you or someone you know needs help with opioid/heroine abuse, speak to your pharmacist or doctor. Tigerdroppings is not the place to ask for this serious of a situation if thats the case.

Here is the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA) website - LINK

Here is their number - 1-800-662-HELP (4357)

Directly to your question, [link(LINK ] is a paper on the difference:

quote:

Methadone (µ-opioid receptor agonist) or buprenorphine (µ-opioid receptor agonist and ?-opioid receptor antagonist) are recommended first-line treatments in opioid detoxification. Naloxone is an opioid antagonist without agonist properties. In opioid-dependent patients, naloxone precipitates withdrawal. Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) was approved by Health Canada in 2007 for substitution treatment in opioid drug dependence in adults. It is a fixed combination of buprenorphine (a partial µ-opioid receptor agonist) with naloxone (an opioid antagonist) in a 4:1 ratio. The addition of naloxone to buprenorphine is expected to decrease the intravenous abuse of buprenorphine, because when taken sublingually, absorption of naloxone is minimal, however it can rapidly precipitate opioid withdrawal when injected. Suboxone is recommended for the treatment of opioid dependence for patients in whom methadone is contraindicated (such as patients at high risk of, or with QT prolongation, or hypersensitivity to methadone)

suboxone.

But...you have to kick covers for 60 hrs or will bring on precipitated withdrawal.

As a pharmacist, I wouldn’t ever fill them both which is in your title. I also can’t think of one doctor that writes for methadone instead of Suboxone to get you off of opiates.

if you allergic to buprenorphine, he would write methadone before Subutex which is fricking asinine.

Did methadone recreationally, did sub to get off all the other opiates I was on when I finally wanted to get "sober". Subs definitely helped me get my life together and I stayed on it for 5 years and was absolutely what I needed at the time.

It was absolute hell trying to get off them though. Worse withdrawal than anything I've ever done. I literally didn't sleep for 4 days straight (restless legs and felt like I had the flu x10). It took me like 3 weeks - a month before I felt halfway normal and probably 6 months until I was back to my old self.

I've been clean off of everything for 4 years now. I wanted to get off of everything completely before we tried starting a family. Only real problem now is that no life insurance company will provide me with coverage because I was on subs for so long.

Seems crazy to me to replace one addiction (heroin) with another either Methadone or Suboxone. I understand the theory behind harm reduction, but unles you are 100% clean you aren’t recovered.
