Last month I bought a ROVE R2-4K for about $70. Everything works well except for WIFI file transfer to the phone app. But if I get into a wreck, WIFI will be my last worry. I can pull the card and put it in my laptop. I uninstalled the phone app.
The app is useless. Camera is great.

I would avoid driver facing and turn the sound off.
I get the privacy concern. Competing considerations include whether you would like to be able to make verbal comments about what you are seeing that may not have been caught on camera (calling out license plate/vehicle info in case you forget before you can write it down), capturing conversations you have with people near your car, proving that you were not looking at your phone, etc.

Can they connect into the rear view mirror instead of having wires strung up?
You can get a rear view mirror with the camera built in.

I have ThinkWare Q800's in my vehicles. Have been very solid for several years now and capture great video. I optioned the polarized filters for mine, cuts way down on the sun glare.

Alpine DVR C320R hardwired installed. Excellent picture. Comes on if someone hits my parked car. Has already paid for itself in a questionable accident in which the other driver did something very dumb and hit me. I sent the video to her insurance and the case was closed very quickly after that.

I think with any dashcam that takes micro SD card, they really need to use ones designed for that application. I tried using a cheaper, still Sandisk branded, higher capacity SD card and it didn't last a month before becoming worn out.

RedTiger F7N
Installed it myself. You do need an additional wiring harness for parking mode.

Just bought one of those myself. Originally intended to install it myself but a little worried I'll break clips on the panels / pillars when attempting to conceal the wires. Debating having a professional install it nice and clean.

For those who just wants a summary.
Two drivers in separate vehicles are in the drive thru at Starbucks. There is a dispute between the two. The black woman, claims the white woman in the other vehicle threw a cup of coffee at her car and called her the N word.
Black woman was unaware the white lady's husband had dash cams set up in the front and back and has hit lap top and was able to download video onto it and show police exactly what happened. The black woman pretty much claimed the white woman did, what she (black woman) did and no one called her the N word.

I have a RedTiger front and rear camera system in my Ram. It’s kind of tricky to do a good job installing but once you do, it’s a nice system. It connects to my phone on a WiFi network. Works great.

Have an Orskey brand. Basic $50 off Amazon. Works well enough.

Look into Nexar. Everything saves to a cloud for 30 days. Very pleased…I think I paid $400 and some change

I have rove front and rear dash cams. I could make a highlight reel of retarded drivers weekly.

What vehicle are you installing it in? It’s really easy to tuck those wires away out of sight.
Does your vehicle have a wire harness coming from the rear view? There are a lot of specific make/model adapters to split that harness and provide power.

I have a Rexing. Probably have bad one for nine years or so.
Any hardwire kit should work. Tuck it under the headliner and use the add-a-fuse to provide power constant or on ignition. Remember to get an SD card.
You can toggle sound and configure the rollover time window. Some have apps now so you can save the clip on your phone without having to plug the card into the computer.

My last company had them installed on company vehicles and a lot of discipline was issued because of minor infractions. I think plaintiffs attorneys probably could do the same thing. As a result, I will not be getting one,
