Pretty sure they came back and said the pieces they tested were from a corner or side of the shroud, and that area had been "repaired" per se over time so the previous results saying the shroud wasn't old enough to be legit were invalid.

True - the section they tested had 13th century thread in it.

The also have sold references to it that pre-date the date established by the carbon-dating.

Regardless of its authenticity - it represents an object that cannot be duplicated today. The image is made without any kind of pigment, stain, or char - there is no element in the image that man can reproduce. Whatever it is, it is totally outside any explanation from today's science.

There are some great investigations into how to interpret that image. I am fascinated by its existence.

The new examination dates the shroud to between 300 BC and 400 AD, which would put it in the era of Christ.

Quite a range there, no?

The Middle Ages carbon test was done in the 80's. IIRC, a university in Europe redid a carbon study a couple of years ago on the same fibers using current technology and dated it to a window around the time of Jesus.

The Vatican has no position on the authenticity of the shroud.

True. But carbon dating is much less of an exact science than people realize:

Yes. We know DaVinci painted it. Why else would a Near East Jew looks like a white male from the middle ages?

The shroud always revolved around nothing but wishful thinking. Sounds familiar.

That could mean the real Shroud is somewhere else and the one on display is a forgery.

Good site that goes into detail without advocating a position either way:

Brian Williams did an interview with Jesus as he was preparing to produce it. They did a special on it.

There is absolutely zero rational reason to believe it's genuine.
