Housing isn't cooling off so much...depends, old Mandeville is hot right now. Not sure about madisonville, Covington, Hammond, or Slidell .

Yeah just last week news reporting STP schools highest ACT scores for the x year in a row. Great Lakes is miserable count who didn't fit in here apparently.

Been living in Madisonville for a year now after 7 years in Nola.
Love where I am, 2 blocks from the Piggly Wiggly, all the kayak fishing I could ever hope to do up and down the Tchefuncte, people are friendly and courteous in my neighborhood, etc.
I have a 3 year old daughter still in school at a daycare in lakeview (her mother lives in Mid City and I still work in nola), but plan to get her in the school system in STP starting next year as I transition my career to the NS. Life seems pleasant over here.
Nola has lots to offer, and from my mid to 20s to early 30s I literally sucked her oyster down on a nightly basis (i.e. Partied). I no longer want to call it home though. I do have a lot of friends I can visit still when I need to scratch the itch, however, which is great. Balance is key no matter where you live and I believe I've attained it over here in Madisonville.
To be fair, I did have a tool box stolen out of the back of my truck over here a few weeks ago, so I guess you might call that "crime". But that is only strike 1.

IDK. I know at least 6 people who have moved into Natchez Trace in the past few months, seems builders are holding the last few lots in there for custom homes. A few houses in my hood are sitting but most eventually sell. Range in here is maybe 300-700. Old Mandeville and Old Covington seem to be holding up well. I have been watching the market in Abita as well as I have a rental there. It seems they are asking stupid money for some of the older renovated homes in town. Two of my friends moved from the Village in Covington to Sanctuary and NT. There homes were both really nice custom homes in the Village, both sold really quickly. I think if you're priced right and it is done right, it sells.

Troll away, you'll have a hard time finding a better quality of life in louisiana than what Mandeville, madisonville, and Covington offer.
Especially Mandeville. Madisonville is cool, but the thought of crossing either of the brides over the tchefuncta river on a daily basis would frustrate the phuck out of me.

Areas outside of Lafayette and BR are just as good IMO. Not saying north shore is better or worse, just making a case for areas in Ascension and Lafayette parishes.

Ascension may have nice neighborhoods, a high average income, and favorable demographics, but it's too blue collar to compare to Mandeville/Covington.

It was essentially my "oh shite" box (jack, jumper cables, rope, etc). I thought about going and filing a report with Madisonville police, but, in the end, I figured it was a random garbage truck worker or someone of the like. Karma will even things out for the individual that stole it. I did, however, put a lock on my shed where my Tarpon 140 yak is. Someone takes that.... I'm going medieval on that arse.
