Other than ice storms in the winter and tornados the rest of the year, Moore has nice weather.

North Central LA averages 140 feet above sea level. Land is cheap and the living is easy. Come on up.

A different part of Lousiana like North Lousiana that had a similiar event like 5 months ago and also a river flood 6 months before that?

I've never seen denham springs flood like that in my 28 years so it's not necessarily the swamp (or wasn't) that people may think.

Houston has flooded more in the past 2 years than in my lifetime in the Baton Rouge area so the people who live in that area aren't just some stubborn Cajuns who don't leave.

There isn't a place in the US that is immune to some form of natural disaster.

Cedar City, Utah is what I figured a decade or so ago. Then a few years after an article came out that said an area north of there along I-15 was the least likely place for a natural disaster in the US.

Denver doesn't really have any natural disaster issues. The worst we might get is a lot of snow when a big storm hits, but that just means you get to stay home from work and chill or go to your local bar all day.

Wildfires up in the hills, river flooding up north around Greeley, tornadoes further east in the plains is about as close as things get to the metro area.

My parents had a 5 year plan to move out of state and retire, Cut it down to 1 year a while back

Now that the house is flooded as is their cars, that plan is in full effect once the flood is over.

I find it hard to believe that any place in LA near the MS River has never flooded

1927 was very very very bad. However, there are natural levees along the Mississippi River which more or less contained the flood waters in that event. Much of the areas flooding today and tonight in Livingston and Ascension Parish were spared in 1927. There are neighborhoods flooding which were spared in 1983 and 2013 which have feet of water in their houses. For these communities, on what should be the safe side of the Mississippi River levees, this is the worst flooding event in Louisiana's history. Completely unprecedented. The flood gages have been completely submerged to the point that the water levels cannot even be accurately measured. The extent of the flooding cannot even be estimated because this is so unprecedented.

The facade of safety. Where you gonna go? Pretty much anywhere you live that's not boring as hell or shitty will have a 5% chance of having your home damaged by natural disaster.

I kinda ballparked that percentage, but still.

This flooding is unprecedented. Tens of thousands of people are losing their homes in areas which have never flooded before.

IRON COUNTY, Utah - A wildfire continues to burn in Iron County at an estimated 400 acres and is threatening about 20 homes and outbuildings.

Authorities said lightning sparked the blaze Wednesday north of Bumblebee Mountain, about 13 miles southwest of Cedar City.

Strong winds hampered efforts to contain the fire Wednesday suspending air resources to fight the blaze.

Winds are expected to pick up again Thursday, however, fire crews were able to send out air and ground resources to drop retardant and work to protect nearby homes.
