I was trying to watch the game last night and kept picking my phone up to scroll through twitter, TD etc etc.

It's the need for instant / constant information.

I don't think it's social media, it's having a small computer in your pocket that can connect to the internet whenever you want. Social media is just one of many things on your phone you can distract yourself with

I think it's both. The apps that I subconsciously start scrolling on my phone are IG & Facebook. Need to delete that shite.

Phones, in general, have made people impatient. Remember when you would leave a message and wait for a call back then go on about your day? Now if you don't call someone right back then they text, and if you don't answer that they get pissy. It's insane how little patience people have and we wonder why everyone seems to suffer with some form of anxiety.

She made it twitch. She reminds me of girl I went to school with.
She has nice sweater puppies

To be fair, it has also made eating alone at a restaurant less awkward, although I usually can't remember what I just ordered.

Not only social media, but the internet has changed our reading habits as well. People now more skim than read deeply. It is worrying because it changes both our tendency to think deeply about what we read, and we tend to believe the headlines rather than read the full article.

It's annoying to read something in print and not be able to scroll back and forth and hit hyperlinks.

I'd say it's just the internet as a whole. Especially with the fast download speeds you can access millions of results in mere seconds.

Not just kids.. I’m an adult in my 40s; i used to be an avid reader, but i cant tell you how many years it’s been since i picked up a book to read for fun... IMO it isnt ‘phones’ or ‘social media’ per se, it’s the internet that’s caused the decline in attention span.. of course, phones and social facilitate this, but it’s just the fact that most people tend to digest short articles and videos that are found on the internet, versus reading novels or newspapers.
