Spent more than a few nights there. A friends dad was into it big time and we tagged along. It was a pretty nice track and attracted some big names.
I knew the track was associated with a lot of controversy, but at my age, I didn't care, I just wanted to see the races and they were good.

I remember the track but never watched a race there. I believe there was a drag strip somewhere around that area to wasn’t there? Or was that farther down around LaPlace? Seems I remember a guy jumping cars and crashing?

The track you are thinking of is in Erwinville, State Capitol Dragway. I was working there the night Fat Rat Russell came up short on a motorcycle jump. Also there when Butch Orand was killed in the jet funny car "Maxi-Taxi".
