Has college changed?

Let’s say you have a MW class and you have a scheduled test for Wednesday, but you are absent from class the Monday of test week. Does the professor still make you take the test on Wednesday? Or does the professor give you time to study and you can take the test at a later date?
Let’s say you have a MW class and you have a scheduled test for Monday, but you are absent the day of the test. Does the professor just let you make up the test at a later date?

I was never bold enough to even ask this from a professor because I didn't expect it

If you dont have a doctor’s excuse you’re phuckd

No hard and fast rules. Depends on the prof.

Why would a professor do any of this?

Never heard of a make up test for missing class BEFORE the test date. Why would they do this?
Missing an actual test date used to always require proof of why, such as a Dr. excuse.

If you miss a test you had better walk into the next class with a cast on
Posted on 12/6/17 at 11:25 am to jac1280
In most classes it doesn't matter if you miss the entire 2 weeks before the test much less the class before. You can still make a good grade if you study a little.

Had a kid in my class think that a test was on Tuesday when the test was really on Monday. Honest mistake.
Professor let him re-take it under the premise that he automatically gets docked a whole letter grade and that the professor will literally make an extremely difficult test just for him.
ETA: It was Moorthy for those that are curious.

Yes.

I guess that would depend on the professor and your reason for missing Monday.

Once again, it depends on your reason for missing Monday.

Short of being in a hospital bed unconscious during a test, the answer here was an absolute "no".
Its your responsibility to make it to class. The teacher will not give you a break because you have better things to do.

It’s called responsibility. It’s possibly the biggest factor that decides the difference between a man and a child. Taking responsibility for yourself and/or your family.
The professor doesn’t owe you shite. You knew you had a test, it’s not his job to make sure you’re there.
If you were sick and/or any other emergency comes up, you had better have proof.

WTF kind of questions are these? College is supposed to be preparing you for the real world.
If you miss work on Monday and have a big project due on Tuesday, do you think the client will just give you more time?

I have the feeling OP is a crotchety old man looking for another "these damn snowflake millennials!" thread.

Not at all, but I think if high schools were more strict with these type of policies, like colleges, less students would try to get away with it in high school. This in turn would reduce the number of students who struggle with the transition from high school to college.

15-20 years ago when I was in college... if you were in class on test day you took the test... didn't matter what prior attendance was.
If you miss the test you damn well better have a good reason and get in touch with the prof as soon as possible via e-mail or phone or office visit... if you can contact before the test, all the better.

It depends. Were anyone's feelings hurt or was anyone offended by the test date? Is there a safe space conversation opportunity available?

your a fricking grown up and you should be treated that way. It's your choice to pay tuition and responsibility to do whatever it takes to be at the exam and be ready for it. No makeups. Nobodys taking role. You don't go to any classes but show up for the exam, pass or fail you earned it.
