Once but nobody laughed at my jokes. It was awkward.

I knew a guy from highschool that did. He made it pretty big.

I saw Theo Von's sister at the On the Run the other day.

I like his routines.

I have been told from early age(5th grade) that I should have done it(I'm kinda old now).
But I could NEVER in a million years. I don't like when the attention is on me and there are expectations. I like to leak my funnies out when least expected.

I admire Chappelle , Eddie Murphy , George Carlin, Chris Rock and Steven Wright.

How Andrew Clay had a career is beyond me. I would never try to do stand up. I heard that it can take a year's worth if writing to pull off a 50 minute show.

If I were going to do standup, I would bring along a couple of my friends who are a little bit "out there", but they laugh at everything I say. I would seat them in the front row and they would act kinda like "fluffers" for the crowd to get them warmed up. Once they start laughing, the rest of the crowd will too...either at me or at my friends.

It's very much like hitting on a chick who is way out of your league

You start off a nerve-wracked bumbling idiot

Most of the time you end up hating yourself and depressed

Adrenaline from rare positive reactions fuel your future attempts

Unless you're Jerry Seinfeld, he is probably the only comedian in history to not know what it feels like to bomb

Not necessarily, but yeah the more material the better...

Thing is with stand up you have to let the audience laugh, timing is very important... You can stretch a show with improvise.. Getting to know the audience really helps...

When I was doing it, you have to stay up with things... I wasn't committed enough with my writing and my material had gotten stale to me...

That top 1% of the of those guys that make really bust their arse... The other 99% struggle on the road, it's a very tough life... That's why I work in a hospital..

People laughed when I said I wanted to be a stand up comedian. Well, they're not laughing now.

I used to be the self proclaimed king of Baton Rouge comedy

I quit because I got tired of listening to the same shitty jokes from the other comics week after week.

Stand up comedy back then was very very gimmicky. I watched some old Sam Kennison and Richard Pryor bits. Way before they were polished by the time Sam passed away and before Pryor was Live on Sunset Strip.

It was about doing something nobody else was doing. Sam was yelling alot. Pryor said the N word and cussed alot. Then Dice man's nursery rhymes were great! And he's the only comedian to ever start a packed house HBO special show with "So I got my tongue up this chicks ASSSSS!" as he takes a drag off a cigarette. That made him the icon he still is even if faded.

There are no bad crowds only bad acts

The last time I did stand up this girl was telling period jokes and you could see how uncomfortable everyone was, which she took as a cue to get louder

It was terrible

Did a few times and won a few prizes in San Francisco and Phoenix.

Doing Cajun jokes with a 'tic accent works well there.
