Daycare is definitely more than catholic school in Louisiana

No doubt. I could send my kid most schools on that list for what I pay in daycare. In NOLA, I'd only come short for Newman/Country Day type schools. And not even by all that much.

Here is another scenario similar to my argument: Say you are going to a casual diner for dinner in a nearby city. Would you rather utilize the cheapest form of transportation available to arrive there and have plenty of money to spend on your meal, or would you opt to spend an exceptional amount of money on some premium method of transportation or a luxury vehicle, only to arrive at the same diner but with less money in your pocket?
Well, i will assume that i'm in Baton Rouge for this, so if i'm utilizing cheap transportation, i'm riding the bus. With this, i'm relying on my gov't to pick me up and drive me to my destination. Hope that they are on time, but i'm not in control of that. Hope they don't crash at any point, b/c i'm not in control of that either. It's going to take me a lot longer to get to my destination b/c i have to wait on everyone else to get on and get off the bus at their destinations. I'm also going to maybe think about getting my concealed license b/c i'd like to have a gun on the bus considering what I may be sitting around. Through all of these concerns, it is likely i will reach my destination without harm and for cheaper than driving my F-150.
Driving my F-150, i know my family is sitting with people that i trust and aren't possible criminals. I also know that i can leave whenever i want. I'm pretty much in control of everything about the scenario and not relying on the govt for anything.
Unless your options to send your kid to high school is Dutchtown or Zachary or Central, near Baton Rouge, I don't see how you can feel good about the future of your kid when you send them to Tara or Broadmoor or Woodlawn while you drive a nice car and have a boat and other nice things b/c you have extra money b/c your kid isn't going to private school. To me, if you have the money, it's pretty selfish of a parent to send their kid to public schools in south louisiana, unless the school is one of the top schools in the state. And to me, if you had the money to send your kid to daycare, then you have the money to send them to catholic school.

Christian Brothers is basically jesuit middle school. I think there were like 4 or 5 kids in my class from cbs that didn't go to Jesuit.

This thread made me check on the current tuition for the high school I went to (Serra High School, San Mateo). It was $650.00 my senior year (1975) it is now $17,540 base tuition . Incredible.

I actually enjoyed CBS slightly more than Jesuit only because watching the Brothers in action was ruthless. I can see why it was (still is?) all boys. If girls had been there they would still be crying. Discipline back then was a one time thing for those who got out of line

That's our grade school catholic tuition in Louisville, KY.
Our private schools like St. Xavier, Trinity, and DeSales are @ $12,000 per year just tuition, not including books, fees. All girls catholic schools are the same rates.

There's a bit more now who don't get into Jesuit, since CBS expanded a few years ago.

Christian Brothers was by far the best school I ever went to. Loved it over there. Brother Amedy ran a tight pizza line

Congrats on the future either stripper or socially inept shut in with 39 cats
Nope, I am in the process of creating a small private school for her that includes classmates. She will have 5-10 classmates to socialize with and play with as well as many field trips and other extracurricular activities (and lots of cousins to play with too!!).
As I have explained before, we are very rural here and going to the nearest private school would require a 60 mile round trip each day. Which is silly when I have a degree in Elementary Education. I also worked at the best Montessori school in New Orleans. I am well qualified.
Our decision to home school has nothing to do with religion or controlling what she learns. As for being socially inept, I doubt that as her parents have active social lives with many friends and their kids, not to mention tons of cousins.
As for the 39 cats, I would think that having a horse, a 4 wheeler, calves to raise and any other animal she wants to raise will be far more interesting than a herd of cats.
As for being a stripper - doubtful. This little girl is the crown princess of the family and it set to inherit a good deal of land and other family holdings. She will have no need to do something like that for money.
But thanks for the laugh. That was pretty funny to see someone react like that.

I don't understand sending your kids to private school unless the public alternative puts your kids lives in danger for elementary school. I went to catholic school and got A's and B's. Didn't help at all when I got to Brother Martin. You still need to put the work in and study. I didn't want to do it and finished with a 2.75 GPA in high school. Did turrible in 3 years at UNO with a 2.5. Transferred to SELU and got nothing less than a 3.5. Brought my 2.5 up to 3.0 in two years.
Just a waste of money to me. But I don't have kids so maybe that would change things.

Your degree is in elementary education. What are you going to do when she hits high school?
Home schooling really produces some weird kids.

So you aren't homeschooling the kid, you are creating an entire school just for them? That'll be totally normal.

The youngest kid is the crown prince? That's a strange monarchy you have there.
In all seriousness, I think home schooling is fine, just as long as the kids have social activities too.

In my experience, home schooling done by weird parents creates weird kids. Then again, they would probably be weird going to any school because of their weird parents.
Home schooling done by perfectly normal parents can lead to perfectly normal and social kids. Again, this is just in my experience. I've seen both cases numerous times. That being said, my daughter will be put in catholic school once she's of age.

Half of the kids attending those schools are on vouchers. It's only white people that are paying those amounts.

Brother Justin was principal when I went there. That dude was downright scary when you're in 5th grade

My favorite memory was watching a classmate get his desk (with him in it) flipped over when one of the nameless brothers caught him sleeping

Or Brother Alfred telling us stories about how he went into hiding as a missionary in Nicaragua because the govt accused the church there of conspiring against the state.
The brothers were legit. It's really sad most them are either dead or retired. Our school system would be far better with more of them around. Of course you'd also hear about it on the news everyday too if they did some if the stuff they got away with back then too.
I could go on and on about that place.

none of the good private schools joined the voucher program
