Also, not the same song as the Soviet anthem. Same melody, though. Hymn of the Russian Federation wasn't written until 2000.

Tchaikovsky'a 1812 Overture once you know the backstory is a big deal.

Ditto for the recent history of the choral in Beethoven's Ninth with regard to German Reunification.

In no order, the Marseillaise, the Russian National Anthem, O, Canada, God Save the Queen & und das Deutschlandleid are the best IMO.

I've listened to that link before. It's a good one.

Here is another one that has footage from when Stalin was in charge vs. the last one ever. The first one you can tell the crowd was really into it, but the last one sounded more like a lost high school band.
