Wrong. I blew out the bottom two moving heavy wood back in the 90s. They took care of that and removed bone spurs. Have not had any pain since. And I went on to race motocross, run, etc. Everything. Whoever told you that is full of shite.

I think it's great that your surgery was a success. Age, cause of pain, surgeon skill and your own health in general have a lot of influence over the outcome. I'm not saying a person should never have surgery. I'm saying that it should be treated seriously. If you can manage the pain, then you should. Surgery, especially back surgery, is not always a success, and in many cases the pain after the procedure is worse.
Success rates vary greatly.

As the joke goes: what’s the most necessary back surgery? The second, third, fourth, fifth…

I was glad to have an honest surgeon. He said, “We do neck/back surgery for arm/leg pain, not for neck/back pain. If your neck/back pain improves, consider it a bonus.”
He was right. I had an anterior cervical discectomy/fusion at C5-6-7 for C6 radiculopathy. Some issues resolved, but new symptoms I never had before the surgery arose. Now 20 years later I’m starting with C4/5 radiculopathy, which is likely related to the additional stress put on the levels adjacent to the fusion. I haven’t addressed it yet, but I wouldn’t have another fusion.

I’m about two weeks into the compressed nerve and the pain is so tough. Managing it with pain medicine but it doesn’t fully go away.
Get in a pool quick.
Start floating and hanging your lower half to de compress.
Add in yoga stretches in the water.
Work on really strengthening your hips with monster walks and squats, lunges in the water so the weight is supported.
Once you really stretch and decompress you'll start to see relief. Don't overdue it at first.
If there is a hot tub get in after.
Amazing results. Truly. I get in the pool at the rec every chance I get now. Really stretch out and work core and legs till I'm exhausted.
That and occupational massage helped me more than id imagine.
Ill never not use the pool the rest of my life. Im down 30lbs.

Did a second epidural on Friday. Your comment here is interesting. The pain I was feeling in my back from sitting, sit to stand, or bending over is largely gone now but the radiating pain in my shin is so bad it feels like when I walk, my shin is going to snap in half. When I touch my shin or rub it, no pain at all.
Not sure if the relief of pain in my back is bc the nerve pain is just over powering it.
Anyway, I’ve made a little progress in the last month doing two epidurals. Really hoping recovery picks up asap. At last doc visit, ortho thought my strength in my leg and foot had greatly improved, but it’s hard for me to see that since I’m still limping around / using a crutch to get down stairs.
