What does the ready position have to do with justification or expectations? There are several stages of fear and danger.

On a normal day just strolling down the street you might not even carry your firearm with you. On a normal day strolling down a New Orleans Street you'll probably have it with you but won't think much about it. On a normal night on a new Orleans Street you'll have it with you and you'll be thinking about it. On a normal night on a New Orleans street and four or five dreaded 20-somethings walking towards you you'll have it on you, be thinking about it and have your hand on it. On a normal night on a New Orleans Street with four five dreaded 20-somethings stopping you and telling you they're going to frick you up you'll have it on you, be thinking about it, have your hand on it and have it drawn.

If you've gotten to this point in our hypothetical then what happens next is up to them not predestined based on the fact that your firearm is out

So if you could diffuse a potentially life-threatening situation you'd rather just keep your pistol concealed until you're forced to pull the trigger and end another human's life?

I'm not saying wave it around and brandish it anytime shite gets sticky but there's plenty of scenarios were just the presentation of a firearm means that everybody walks away safely and nobody gets hurt

I've never felt the NEED to own a fire extinguisher but I have one and I know how to use it to put out a fire. I've never heard my fire alarm go off but I still own one.

Firearms are like fire alarms. It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it

When I was living in an apartment in BR. It's the arse crack of dawn and I'm in the shower, just woke up. I hear a few incredibly loud bangs and immediately turn the shower off. Listen for a second then 3 or 4 more bangs, much louder and it seems like the building is shaking. At this point I'm positive someone is trying to break down my door.

I throw on a towel, grab my .40, and run into the living room. Then I hear the sound of really violent prying and destruction of wood. Look at the large back window and see two silhouettes through the shades. I don't know why they'd be trying to break in through the window like that, but my brain knows that they are. I run out the back door, never put a bead on them but they can see me holding the gun.

It's two Mexicans, one on a step ladder. The one on the ladder just bails into the bushes and the other one starts pointing at another building yelling "super!!" (Neither spoke a lick of English). I look over there and see a whole construction group working on another building. Turns out the complex was replacing all of the windows in one of their buildings that week (building 8). Building 8 had been notified of work times, etc. I was in building 9. Well these two guys had a typo on their work order that mistakenly said building 9. Rather than question why they had one window at a different building, they just strolled across the courtyard and started busting out my window frame. I wish the apartment had video of it, I'm sure it would have been hilarious.
