I’ve set up a llc through them before and it was pretty easy. Not sure about a will. TIA

Are you wanting to avoid probate? There's a ton of other items to do. I'd use an attorney.

If you’re doing something as important as a Will, go to an attorney.

As an attorney, I would recommend seeing an actual attorney about something like a will/estate planning. I don’t say that to try scratch the backs of other attorneys, but you want to make sure that the will is done correctly so that there won’t be any questions as to it’s validity when you pass away and it needs to be probated. You want to make sure that the will follow’s the laws of your state and that it is executed properly.

Are you a Louisiana resident?

If so, doing a will through Legal Zoom is a terrible idea.

This is also a good point. I’m not even in Louisiana and I know that Louisiana’s estate/probate laws are notoriously wacky.

Don't put your family through dealing with a will. You can transfer assets in a variety of ways, I would find a trust attorney.

Just write it up yourself in WordPerfect. Have your cat ink up his paw and make a print at the bottom. (I assume you are leaving everything to your cat. Let me know if this is inaccurate.)

Trying to save a couple hundred on something like this is the definition of pennywise and pound foolish. You can pay a lawyer to do it right or your succession administrator can pay a lawyer to untangle the mess later.

If a Louisiana will is done properly, Louisiana has a very easy probate system if independent executors are named in the Will. There is no real need to set up a revocable trust in Louisiana like other states.

I know nothing about that company you mentioned but I have seen many many people try to do their own will and for various reasons they are not worth the paper they are printed on. And some were very large estates. Louisiana has strict rules regarding the form and content of wills and if something is wrong then the will gets tossed. Lawyers can do simple wills for a reasonable price. Get it done right.

Not all of them were invalid, of course, but enough of them were.

I mean if you can’t trust legal advice from Robert Shapiro, what can you trust?

Only if he has a complex situation. We had an attorney draw ours up because I had children before we married but he told us that for simple situations like one wife and all the kids are for you two with no other heirs, Legal Zoom or another online will would have been fine.

But it is also a relatively inexpensive task for a lawyer to handle and probably worth the cost for peace of mind.

Yes, but when the beneficiaries turned out to be Roberts Shapiro and Kardashian (who are thankfully quite dead), my daughter’s dog gets everything.
