I have one. The most dangerous things about them is their tail. She has nut tapped the shite out of me numerous times.

That's kind of sad. The Doberman we got when I was in elementary school died when I was in college. Didn't know Great Danes don't live long.
It’s not that bad now. You kinda get used to it
Not really but I look at it as by adopting them they have a much better life living with me then the situation they were in so it helps. Plus I’ve gotten 11.5 and 13 out of two of them. The other one I had for a couple of years and had to put her down because of cancer. Poor thing was in terrible shape when I got her and full of pellets and BB’s from being shot. Ears cut way too short and weighed under 100 pounds. Got her all fixed up and then cancer.
The Dane I have now was all fricked up and starved damn near to death. Full of heart worms, skin tags big as golf balls and needed dental work.

She is 4 yo. 3/4 Dane and 1/4 Brittany Spaniel. The most human like of any dog I've ever had. Her monthly cycles are messy though..

Had one that was 6’2” and 185lbs in Baton Rouge. No matter what you do they don’t live long and would never do it again. Too much heartbreak. They are as goofy, fun, childish, and lovable as you can imagine IMO.
They are also lots of work. A two foot tail wrecks everything when the doorbell rings.

Never a time when the doorbell rang and something in the house wasn’t broken.
My girlfriend at the time almost lost an arm to a squirrel sighting one night. She completely underestimated the power of 185lbs wrapped around her wrist one night.

Neighbors of a friend had a big male who was a professional stud. Also was clueless.
When a female would be brought for him to impregnate, he didn't know what to do. It would take both his owners to manipulate him and insert him. I know this because it happened often enough that it became their equivalence of "must see TV".

No, but I’ve heard they are great.

“ Didn’t know Great Danes don’t live long”.
Most only live 6-8 years, unusual for one to make it to 10 years old.
I knew a Dr. that raised them.

I’ve had American Gret Danes vs European. The American Danes tend to live a little longer, are smaller, and less drool.

Nope. No one has ever owned a great Dane.
Thanks for asking and please endeavor to keep us posted. Thank you.

And apparently a "well heeled" saint to put out that kind of money to a vet over a dog.

I had one that lived for 15 years. A treasure of a dog, when my son was young and the neighborhood kids would come over ot play football, our dane would join in but would never let the other kids tackle my son, it was hilarious to watch, he would run along side my son as lead blocker.
Putting him down was a very rough time. The last thing he did was put his head in my lap, lick my arm, and then he closed his eyes.
