No, police are supposed to protect and serve.

WHOA. Police don't have to protect you unless you are in their custody. They don't actually "serve" anyone but the government.

They lowered the rates because they legally had to, the actual receipts are the same or higher due to inflated assessments. You can't be this dumb.

That's not accurate. Maybe some, I haven't looked at every rate in every city, but many were cut by more than 10% which means the overall tax went down

My grandpa, great uncle and uncle all grew tobacco. No one in family grows it now. Cousin worked for RJR.

I’ve known several who worked for the IRS, but I’ve never know someone who worked for a tobacco company.

My old professor Larry Crumbley at LSU was a former IRS agent and Pete Maravich’s classmate. All I got.

I work in tax, so have come into contact with a few IRS agents, attorneys, etc.

With the exception of one attorney, they’ve all been professional and easy to work with.

There is an IRS actuary I’m aware of who keeps on taking an adjucated incorrect position on the cost of insurance in his audits, which is then overturned under appeal. That guy is a dick for doing that, but haven’t come into contact with him directly

I've worked with some real dumbass auditors. They weren't trying to be dickheads for the most part, just idiots.

There are a couple of dickheads too though

I’ve never really understood the hate for IRS folks. They are hired by the taxpayers to collect taxes that we vote on and pass.

I know people who work for the IRS, Soc Security, Medicaid, USDA/Food Stamps

Not big tobacco, though

Yeah they definitely all aren’t the sharpest tools in the shed, at least within the LB&I group I’ve come into contact with. Granted, stepping in to a large corporation and trying to figure out what’s going on isn’t easy, and there are plenty of issues that corporate tax departments are just guessing/best estimate on as well, so I cut them some slack.

The IRS staff within the insurance practice are generally pretty smart though.

My brother worked as a sales rep for Phillip Morris. He later became a food broker.

I had a professor in the tax law program who had worked as an attorney in the IRS Chief Counsel office. He was a huge a-hole and would regularly try to embarrass people he called on in class

Brown and Williamson was HQ'd here in Louisville until until the early 00s. Know several folks that worked for them. They merged with Reynolds about 20 years ago so a lot of those folks headed to Winston Salem at that point.

There was a big suite on the backside of Cardinal Stadium (UofL) that was sponsored by them as well. They threw a fair amount of money at the University of Louisville.
