Has anyone else been relentlessly hammered with spam calls this week?

Been getting the same call over and over again from different numbers about supposed tax balances. I’ve gotten 4 alone today and about 20 this week.

Each call is a female bot voice that leaves a voicemail if you ignore it. It begins like this (copying from my voicemail text):

quote:

Hello, this is Ashley with American tax advisors. Today is Friday, August 7th. I'm calling regarding a time sensitive matter involving tax balances or unfiled tax returns that still need to be addressed.

Which one of you baws put me on the spammer list?

You don’t have your iPhone updated and the spam filter turned on?

Some weeks are worse than others wanting to loan me money or resolve IRS issue. I’ve been picking up then hanging up and blocking. If I decline the call it goes direct to vm and I don’t want the vm. Spammers should be shot on sight. Since I’ve been doing this there seem to be less calls.

I get em all day everyday. Just answer, scream into the phone and hang up.

I refused to have voice mail activated on my phone.

Text me or don't, but you're not leaving me a voice message. I hate them.

Verizon seems to make it difficult af to disable voicemail. And, to make it worse, you get unlimited voice mails so I can't even let them fill up my box.

It seems to be auto vm and a phone carrier service. I didn’t set it up that I recall. Maybe I did but didn’t create a personal msg. I hate them and don’t even listen unless I’m expecting a call and missed it.

My service is with Visible and it's part of Verizon. They had no issues not setting up VM when I switched carriers.

Who didn't know how to disable VM was Mint Mobile, which is how Visible got me.

Are you saying you have weeks where you were not? I get maybe 2 valid phone calls a month, and hundreds of 'missed' calls, not less than 6 a day, some upwards of a dozen.

They really ramped up the past 10 days or so. I have filtering on and it’s just the same voicemail multiple times a day. I don’t need a damn loan.

Just a FYI, but avoid answering unknown numbers if possible. When you answer then hang up it keeps your name on the list, but if you don't answer, after a few times calling your name will be removed from their list.

The scammers buy list with many numbers on them. If they call 250 people a day, they just need one to bite, but they want to eliminate numbers that would be a waste of time calling, but if someone answered then hangs up, its considered potential. Then some of them will turn around and sell their list, which they can get more for because they have filtered out the numbers that don't answer. If you do answer then hang up then that list with your number can end up going to 3, 4 more scamming outfits.

It’s gone down a lot since I absolutely refuse to answer their calls or text messages. I still get them from time to time. I don’t answer any call if I don’t recognize the number.

I am getting hammered by fricking political text messages from Ted Cruz and Trump and every other republican. Geez how bad is it going to be when we get closer to the midterms??

I used to block them as spam but I guess that just shows them you have a live number. I hate it.

It goes to vm and also lets them know it’s a valid number. Same darn msg multiple times per day. I find when I pick up then hang up preventing vm it slows down the calls.

They know it's a valid number as soon as it doesn't generate an error message.

I began getting them like a year ago.
Then, I put myself on the do not call register.
Then, I began getting more.
44 in one day last week.

Don’t think I have gotten a spam call in couple years. I have heard some they get lots of political text too. I have never gotten one. I assumed because I never donated to political party

Political texts on my iphone can't be spam blocked, just deleted or blocked but never reported for spam. Pisses me off.

Also, last year $3.5 billion was lost in scams.

FTC Data

What I don't understand and maybe it can't be done, but IMO these are the things our government should take action against. Maybe nothing can't be done because they are not in the US, but things seem to get done when they need to, but why can't the US government do something about this? You telling me they can't work with the countries these people operate in that will punish them enough it wouldn't be worth doing? It just seems like $3.5 billion is enough to make the assumption that there were people, older people, people not in their right mind, etc who lost significant amount of money.

$3.5 billion comes out to be scamming 35,000 people out of $100,000. 35k people is less than 1% of the population so when you look at it like that.. If they called everyone with a phone number (which would be less than the population because some people don't have phones especially kids of a certain age, etc).. But even if we say 200,000,000, 35k is still a very small percentage. It just seems like this is something the government could do that would actually protect and help people... And for everyone else, eliminate the bull shite calling.
