My scariest Mexico story didn't happen in TJ though, it happened in Baja

We were down at the beach, there were 6 of us we rented a house for a week. First day we're there we go down to the beach and there are people on the beach but no one i swimming. The water looked beautiful , but no one is swimming. My friends and I jump in and start swimming and we're fricking around and people are yelling at us from the shore but at the time none of us spoke Spanish , so we didn't know what they were yelling about or really even that they were talking to us or not, so we keep swimming and what not.

Well after about 10 minutes a little boat comes over the horizon and motors right up to us and it's the Mexican Navy or whatever and they're like "get in the boat now" and I mean I'm talking about armed men so we get in the boat and they haul us back to where they came from and this guy's like "Didn't you stupid Americans see the signs warning not to swim in the ocean because of multiple shark sightings?"

Lucky we didn't get our asses bit.

I spent 4 days there last year. If you stay off the shitty sides of town, it is a very enjoyable trip. The food was amazingly good and the alcohol was good and cheap. I highly recommend the TJ Marriott. Lunch at Caesar's was fantastic as were dinners at El Potrero Carnes. I would definitely go back when I had more time to explore the Baja coast.

I’ve been a couple times when I was younger, the last being when I was 16 and ventured down with my sisters while visiting family in SD.

We went to a little taqueria called La Revolucion. 20 tacos, 16 margaritas, and 4 beers for less than 30 bucks. Best Mexican food I ever had

Terrible place. Went back in the mid-90s while living in California and it was abject poverty. Kids selling chiclets as soon as you cross the border. What was not poor was touristy as hell.

On the positive side, you could get pretty much whatever you wanted for reasonable prices at the farmacia.

Took my brother once when he came out to visit and he kissed the ground upon returning to Los Estados Unidos.

In about 12 hours, I had more shite happen that I don’t ever want to have happen again in my life than I have had happen in my other 57 years on this planet combined. frick that place.

a list of 4 or 5 with synopsis will be appreciated, I'm sure.
The setup is perfect.

I've been.

At the time there were soldiers along the highway armed to the teeth.

Gave us that warm fuzzy feeling that spelled never again.

o it is not safe to be an American in most of Mexico outside of the well known resort location any more. Kidnapping Americans is only slightly behind drug dealer in terms of most popular job for Mexican men.

Wrong.

I have family and own a house in Mexico. I'm not wrong. I may have exaggerated the danger slightly but it certainly isn't safe for Americans to just be wandering around Mexico right now.

When I lived in SD I went a few times. On Sundays there was a place that had country/ Western bands and $1 Coronas. A real fun place. I used to go work my co workers who were from Louisiana and once when we were coming back into the US, one of my dumb arse co workers lost his wallet somewhere and the US border agents would not let him cross back. He had to spend the night and go to a US consulate the next day and it took him a few days to get the proper paperwork for him to be let back into the US.

TJ was a shithole when I went back in the early 90s and that was multiple Mexican recessions and a few cartels ago.

Try Windsor, ONT, instead and get full nude dancers shoving their tits in your face.

My dad was in the Marines in the late 50's stationed at Camp Pendleton, I asked what he did in the corp and he said, "Tijuiana taxi driver." After his death I found out he was right.

Then its time to hear "taxi to the border?"

Nothing like having your taxi pulled over at a roadblock and cops shining flashlights in your face asking you if you have drugs.

No, but I went to High School with a guy who was from Mexico and he said Tijuiana was the last place you would want to go. He used to tell us how bad it was there. This was 30 years ago I can't even imagine how bad it is now.
