May be a conspiracy with the insurance companies to limit payouts from having a major hurricane vs. a minor???

This close to landfall, they might be erring on the low side if it's marginal. If people freak out and start trying to run away at this point, they'll just end up riding a hurricane out stuck in a trafic jam in their car.

You've got a dropsonde saying 102 kt winds at the surface, 130 kt winds above the surface, and the pressure is definitely there. Not sure why they'd hold off.

If it makes that dip back into the gulf tuesday hopefully it's not there long at all when it swings North or NE. That or at least weaken it more on land would be nice. Jesus that thing is going nowhere soon...what did Texas do to deserve that?

It's not a conspiracy but there's gotta be a reason that the NHC is being gunshy about promoting it to a major storm. All the data I'm seeing is telling me it should be cat 3.

eta: looks like some fresh lightning in the eyewall. maybe some more intensification yet to come.

I predict that this storm will not turn east and continue down the coast, but instead will move mostly north and fall dissipate eventually

I also know absolutely nothing about meteorology, so take that FWIW

Does that matter? I have a hurricane deductible that's different from the regular wind/hail deductible, but that kicks in once the storm is named. I don't think strength of the named storm matters.

Recon about to make their way back through the eye. I guess they may be looking for some verification outside of a lone dropsonde?
