So a guy gets married and realizes he doesn't want to live within the royal family umbrella forever.

What's wrong with that? Aren't people supposed to grow up and go do their own thing.

Donald Trump who is the face of America gave a full throated toast to the Queen last year.

Even referred to her as Her Majesty and praised her Reign.

quote:

PRESIDENT TRUMP: Your Majesty, Melania and I are profoundly honored to be your guests for this historic State Visit. Thank you for your warm welcome, for this beautiful weather -- (laughter) -- your gracious hospitality, and Your Majesty’s nearly seven decades of treasured friendship with the United States of America.

quote:

From the Second World War to today, Her Majesty has stood as a constant symbol of these priceless traditions. She has embodied the spirit of dignity, duty, and patriotism that beats proudly in every British heart.

On behalf of all Americans, I offer a toast to the eternal friendship of our people, the vitality of our nations, and to the long, cherished, and truly remarkable reign of Her Majesty the Queen. Thank you.

I think you have that backwards. What happened was a girl gets married into the royal family, realizes it's not what she thought it would be, then used her vagina to get her husband to leave the royal family so she could re-start her career in acting.

I'm fairly certain that's what happened here.

I don't see the appeal of being in a royal family.

Sure you have money but you really have no freedom.

Has it been discussed she was a paid sex worker for a sheikh in Dubai. It’ll come out soon if not.

Harry and Meghan wanted to break away from the royal family while still keeping their royal titles and use them officially and The Queen told them no and made them pay back the tax dollars used to refurbish Frogmore Cottage and banned public funds for them.

This was a bitch slap from the Queen to her grandson and his trashy whore.

So? The monarchy is a dead form of government, and that the British royals are visible vestiges of it doesn't make the form of government any less dead. The British know this, which is why Parliament is the sovereign entity in the country, and not the monarchy, but for some reason paying respect to these zombies is important.

And just because an American gave praise to the Queen doesn't mean that monarchies aren't antithetical to American values.

Factually incorrect.

Legally, The Queen is the Sovereign and head of state of the UK and they address and treat her as such.

Parliament is just the entity who runs the day to day affairs of the state.

Did you know that when King Edward was gallivanting around with Wallis Simpson and made plans to marry her, the Prime Minister and cabinet at the time along with damn near the entire government threatened to resign if the marriage went forward?

That was a crisis so bad it forced Edward to abdicate the throne.

That's how much brits respected the monarchy and still do to this day.

I'm more than willing to be correct, but Royal rights were removed in 1689 by the Bill of Rights, which made Parliament the de facto sovereign entity in the state, with the monarchy serving only a perfunctory role.

quote:

Parliament is just the entity who runs the day to day affairs of the state.

I'm pretty sure this is incorrect. Parliament is central institution of the state. The problem with regards to the UK is that they do not have a written constitution which lays out who the sovereign is explicitly, but in de facto terms, the English Civil War made who was sovereign explicit.

quote:

Did you know that when King Edward was gallivanting around with Wallis Simpson and made plans to marry her, the Prime Minister and cabinet at the time along with damn near the entire government threatened to resign if the marriage went forward?

That crisis also occurred when Britain was still an empire. I'm skeptical that such a reaction would occur today. Also the context of Edward's abdication was his overt involvement in politics, in the form of numerous speeches he gave. His involvement was an affront to the notion of constitutional monarchy, and spread fear that he as king would allow the crown to reenter politics. That subtext makes his abdication through his marriage to Simpson important, as much of the source of the opposition came from fear that he would use the crown politically, if I recall.

My dick has never been sucked so well as to get me to abdicate.

...he's either a fool, or he's lucky beyond measure.

Bowing to the Saudis is one thing.

I'll allow bowing to the God damned queen. If she was in charge Britain wouldn't be as screwed up as it is.

Democracy can get things wrong too
