I am just wondering if by chance you knew a man named JOSEPH RONALD VALENTINE from Prairieville?
Joey was KIA June 3, 1968 in the Plain of Reeds Kin Ton Doc Canal, South Vietnam, Dinh Tuong province.
He was Army, 9th Infantry Division, 2nd Battalion, 39th Infantry, A Company.
I still remember two officers getting out of a big black car and walking to the door of his parents informing them of Joey that he was KIA in Vietnam.
I was s small child but I still remember it to this day.
Joey wasn't even 21 years old when he died.
I found this by one of his classmates who wrote this about Joey:
quote:
Joe Valentine and I were classmates at Gonzales High School, Gonzales, LA, and graduated together on May 21, 1965. Joe was one of those guys who always had a smile on his face and I don't remember ever seeing him mad. He was everybody's friend, just one of those good old guys. When I returned from overseas and asked about him, I got news that he didn't make it back from Viet Nam. That still weighs heavy on my heart. I'm proud to have known him and he has my utmost respect forever.

I met a Marine named Broussard in Quang Tri RVN. He was astonished that I did not know where Prairieville was. I don't recall his first name.

Not to be disrespectful of those who served, but how in the hell did our entrance into Vietnam protect the freedom of Americans?

That is a damn good question. This fall I will attend a 50th anniversary of my Marine helicopter squadron departing for Viet Nam. I hope to find an answer.

My uncle was an 0331 with 5th Marines. He got there right after Tet in 68. After getting wounded twice, he got to spend the rest of his deployment as a door gunner on a helo. #CSB

What about Douglas Fournet?
The quality of men that died in Vietnam is staggering.

Thank you for your service. My dad was there from 66-68. We lost him to PTSD in 2010.
