I agree with you.

Then why dismiss it so casually?

My logic and reason tell me this guy's a fraud
"Reason is the greatest enemy that faith has; it never comes to the aid of spiritual things." - Martin Luther
"Reason must be deluded, blinded, and destroyed. Faith must trample underfoot all reason, sense, and understanding." - Martin Luther
"Reason is the Devil’s greatest whore; by nature and manner of being she is a noxious whore; she is a prostitute, the Devil’s appointed whore." - Martin Luther

Salvation and duty are two different things. If you believe that you are saved through works then you believe that you are in charge of your own salvation and not God.

quote:salvation comes through faith alone, not works Yet somehow protestants are the busiest of bodies, working reallllll hard to make sure they tell everyone how bad catholics are so they can justify the existence of their particular flavor of christianity.
If they understood we spend literally zero time thinking about about them it might help them move on and focus on themselves.

Oh look, a Papist edgelord with the false-dichotomy strawman.

I don’t. And no one I know at our church does. No one in my Christian family, friends, pastoral, or academic circles does.
So-called Protestants have the same issue as RCs, writ large: nominal believers. Even Satan and his demons believe and even understand. They just don’t obey.

Thank you to all the fathers of the Reformation!

Loup's not a catholic. He's just one of those stupid fricks who pretends to be smart but really doesn't know anything and about anything. He should be ignored

They don't dismiss it as a duty they dismiss it as necessary for salvation.

You raise lots of points that people will be interested in. They can find out more about the Catholic perspective on Catholic Answers.
The Martin Luther story is complicated. One thing about him that sticks out to me is this: Luther proclaims that Reason is the Enemy of Faith. I've always been more attracted to Saint Thomas Aquinas's approach using Reason to draw closer to God's Truth.
Luther's exact quote:

Reason is the greatest enemy that faith has

quote:Absolutely. Coincidentally was reading James yesterday. The disconnect is Protestants change what we mean by "works"
Even Satan and his demons believe and even understand. They just don’t obey.
James 2:14-26
What good is it, my brethren, if someone claims to have faith but does not have good works? Can such faith save him? 15 Suppose a brother or sister is naked and lacks his or her daily food. 16 If one of you says to such a person, “Go in peace; keep warm and eat well,” but does not take care of that person’s physical needs, what is the good of that? 17 In the same way, faith by itself is dead if it does not have works.
18 But perhaps someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith without works, and by works I will show you my faith. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well to assert that. But even the demons believe and tremble.
20 You fool! Do you want proof that faith without works is futile? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 Thus, you can see that his faith and his works were active together; his faith was brought to completion by works.
23 Thus, the words of Scripture were fulfilled that say, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called the friend of God. 24 You can see, then, that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.
25 Likewise, Rahab the prostitute,[c] was she not also justified by works when she welcomed the messengers and sent them away by a different road? 26 For just as the body is dead without a spirit, so faith without works is also dead.

I was just about to post about the James 2:24 “debate” (clearly a non-debate).
Even Luther recanted and repented re: James.
Back with my 96th thesis.

Gonna need you to show your work on this one. I have the same experiences as you and the only people I have ever heard say that Catholics worship Mary and the Saints or that Catholics can "earn" their way into heaven are, in fact, my wife's Baptist family members who also tell us to our faces that we are going to hell for being Catholic. That's not a two way street, by the way. I've never seen her Catholic family members say anything of the sort.
If all we are doing is trading anecdotes, there is mine.

Fun fact: Martin Luther would routinely flagellate himself because he thought the devil lived in his bowels.
It's thought he just had crohns disease.
