March 14 - 3.14, actually only a crude approximate of Pi.

March 14, 1592 was "Ultimate Pi Day". on this day at 6.53am is the largest correspondence between calendar dates and significant digits of pi, since the introduction of the Julian calendar (3.14159265358)

Boudreaux: What is the formula for the area of a circle?

Thibodaux: It is "pi r squared"

Boudreaux: No cher, pie are round...

I actually think it is fascinating that the math dudes made this discovery.

The premise of pi is that it is the circumference divided by the diameter, no matter how large of small the circle is. I would have loved to have seen the trial and error involved in figuring this out.

I will celebrate Pi day at 3:14:15pm today with a quick toast by tossing back a couple inches of Pecan Whiskey.

It’s the perfect pre-party to get ready for Austin 3:16 Day later this week.

This reminds me about an article I read earlier that I am trying to find. Since I can't start threads, this would be the more likely thread to mention it.

It was an article by some "academic" type arguing the Calculus should be removed from high schools.

It gave some statistic on the number of schools in the US that don't offer it but WTF would someone advocate removing Calculus from HS. No one is required to take it in HS, but it sure as shite doesn't hurt anyone going into engineering.

One of my good friend's daughter is a HS senior and she is going to school for Mechanical Engineering. She already has credit for Calculus I.

The article said some bullshite that it gives kids who go to HS that offer it an advantage over kids who go to HS where its not offered which is the dumbest fricking thing I ever heard.

If I didn't know any better, I would say there are people or organizations, etc in which it would be in their best interest if the general population in the US was less educated.

Why don't we get an e day? Or an i day? If we bring e to the power of i times pi and add one we can get zero: e^(i*pi) +1 = 0.

Today is steak and a BJ day. You nerds need to stop with the pi crap.

Unless it becomes steak, pie, and a BJ day. That would be acceptable.
