I called her America's sweetheart, but her father was Russian/Jewish named Joseph Katz (he changed the name), a successful broadway show producer, and her mother was Chinese/Filipino, which accounts for her somewhat exotic look. Her uncle was likewise a successful producer in tv in Hollywood.
She trained as a dancer until a knee injury ended that at age 14. In 1973, when Phoebe was ten, there was a young "supermodel" named Valerie Cates, and after her knee injury a few years later Phoebe followed her older sister into the model business. Who knew she had two sisters?
She found modeling to be extremely boring and repetitive and turned to acting. There are few photos of Valerie or Alexandra found by imagesearch. Here they are in a photospread with the Fitzpatrick sisters in the October 1979 Seventeen magazine, and another shot with Val. The spelling "Valeria" is due to publishing in a Spanish magazine article on an exclusive spa in Spain.
