I remember that's where Danny's Fried Chicken was as well
We had a Danny's out in Lakeshore next door-ish to Ray's. Back when 80 literally just forked instead of how they have a light there now

For all the my people who grew up in Monroe… does anybody remember the banana split ice cream bars???… chocolate shell with vanilla and cherry ice cream on the inside…
Someone told me the ice cream place downtown( forgetting the name) made them

I’m going bump this thread… we got plenty of old pictures of Monroe back at my Mama’s house … next time I’m back home I’ll post … time frame late 50’s - early 90’s… the majority of the Booker T, Renwick and New Town areas

I remember it as "It's the taco habit at the sign of the masked rabbit".
Also, Genusa's Italian Restaurant and Enoch's are both worth a mention

Does Sal's still have Shaq's shoe on the shelf over the cash register?

I hated living in Monroe. I rebuilt my life there so It’ll always have a sweet spot in my heart but the town was pretty shitty in most respects.

Both still hanging in there even though Genusa's had a setback with a fire and closed not long ago but I think is opened back up.
I would be remiss if Goudeau's Health Club wasn't brought up in a conversation about Funroe. Used to be some hard core lifters in that place back in the day. Back when just about everybody in there was on a cycle and not the bike variety. Then Chuck took it over from Charles and it became Moore's. Damn those were fun times. My uncle ran the boxing gym in West Monroe and I practically grew up there and I guess I started weight training in high school and bounced between both. Even though I never got into karate although I grew up with the son of the owner, but Bob Allen Karate has to be brought up as well. Right there on Louisville Ave.
