I was a kid in the mid 80's and I hope you are right. It was so bad back then for everyone.

I could be greedy arse because I'm making damn good money and it could help me to buy up assets these days, but I just don't even have the stomach to think about it.

He triggered me. Good luck, buddy. Remember, if you have to dial leisure spending back, cycling is always free.

Will this oil slump cause any noticeable slowdown in housing for areas like SA, Austin, or Dallas?

Austin is on a rapid climb that will not stop until traffic on I35 and Mopac literally comes to a permanent standstill. O&G having a negligible effect here.

Dallas is more financially linked to that industry through banking etc but will not feel it much

I really hope you all are right. I really think this is tied into a much bigger world wide slow down.
Not screaming about a recession and buying food/ammo, but I'm a little worried about La in general.

Austin burbs are already reaching a point where they are too expensive for what they are, imo. Some of the prices in Austin are crazy. Cant be sustainable.

My company just laid off another 6,000. Most of those lay offs were US based employees.

I was talking with colleague yesterday about the current state of the industry. He was telling me about a friend of his who is an engineer with 20+ years of experience who was recently laid off in the US. He's working as a bartender now to try and make ends meet.

Good luck man. It's tough out there right now. My stepdad is laid off since January. He is an electrician. He was offered a job working in a shipyard this past week. I'm not sure which, probably Mobile though.

My job was in jeopardy last month due to activity levels here. Our jobs are stressful enough as it is but tack on the added worry of losing your job and it almost becomes unbearable.

I have savings to last me around a year but I certainly didn't want to tap into it.

I count myself lucky because right now my job is secure until the end of this year.

I got laid off in junky of 2013 from my job. They cut out a whole production shift.

I was off work for a month but with in 5 days I had another job lined up. I wasn't to thrilled to be doing what I'm doing now but overall I'm enjoying it and I'm on the fast track for promotion and it actually pays as well as O&G in the higher up positions.

There are jobs out there you just may have to wear polos, button up shirts, slacks, and maybe a tie.

Good luck to everyone unemployed and still employed keep your heads up and continue to pray for better leadership all around.

Your pathetic, how can you wish this on anyone

Yeah, this doesn't set me off. I realize it's the internet. People who truly believe it's a net plus for the economy anywhere near Louisiana/Houston annoy me much more. But they are starting to see how much this industry affects everyone. Yeah your gas is cheaper, but now you are going to have to pay your kids tuition. Hope you save a ton.

The "good people are losing their jobs" comments are absurd. I want every contractor to start losing his livelihood so I can buy a house for 60 bucks a square foot. I want every IT employee to live on Ramen so I can get my computer fixed for a dollar, I mean we can say that about anything.

What gets me the most is the truck nuts comments. I made fun of those Salt Life sticker bastards more than anyone. But man its sooooo unfunny now that my blood pressure rises when I see it. Not because I'm offended. Because I know there are people dumb enough to think that's funny enough to be worth typing out, and that just doesn't sit right with me.

Not sure what you mean by this. First rounds I've seen quite a few get cut and they really didn't give a crap. Second and now third is a diff story. Outside looking into a place like Halli it seems that relations are saving more asses than work ethic. If your daddy has a good duck blind or camp in Dularge your in good shape lol

WFT?

yep, that's who I worked for. Look, I don't have much experience in the field itself but had been in the houston/SJP office for almost 2 years and I will tell you that the execs and sr mgt would have run this company into the ground even without the oil bust

there's been shite happening that have made me take a step back and evaluate why I'd still been with the company.

eta: had to edit and take out some things.
