It's layout is completely incomprehensible and illogical too.
Most cities build loops or bypasses to alleviate traffic. If you look I10, I12 and I110, it actually makes a big X or intersection.
Florida Blvd is really a ghost town at this point. They should expropriate it and make an elevated bypass for 18 wheelers or thru traffic coming off the interstate. That would solve a lot of problems.

Been there. Those are bad.
Lafayette is worse in terms of sheer disregard and stupidity.

Thought it was the residents in that lovely stretch of ghetto between Pinhook and Willow Street that were holding up progress on 49?
That along with the local liberal Reddit group that thinks that section of 90 should be completely demolished and replaced with bike trails and walking paths.

Do yall understand how dangerous your roads are?
I've been around this country, I've never seen people drive more aggressively and with blatant disregard for traffic flow. Even in BR.
What's going on down there? Are yall okay?
Edit - I will add, I've also never seen a more poorly laid out city. Also it's really good to remember this when you get out and it's busy. You aren't in traffic. You are the traffic. You're not above everyone else out there.
I'm convinced Lafayette traffic is a CIA psyop to see how far people will be pushed until they burn down all government buildings. The traffic lights are incredibly out of sync, you pass a green light to a red light in 20 feet. Everyone gets a bike lane. Everyone gets a J-turn. Everyone gets a roundabout...unless you are in an already established neighborhood in the middle of the city...you get a 4 way stop that completely destroys the flow of traffic so a rich granny can turn left while a line of cars watches in horror. Road construction is prioritized for busy hours during the worst time of the year, lasts incredibly too long, is of amazingly poor quality, and makes the cousin of someone in power very rich.
Lafayette is where you go if you want to watch a pathetic class of elites waste every single dime you pump into the system.

Lafayette is very odd in that, for an area that's overwhelmingly conservative, they have a very vocal artsy liberal environmentalist crowd

They dominate the government, at all levels. The rural population won't vote.

Had an appointment in Lafayette the other day
At the DMV? Did they reinstate your license?

You must live in BFE, driving in Lafayette is a cakewalk compared to NOLA, BR, or any city in Texas.
I know, from youngsville to I10 takes about 22 min with no traffic.
With traffic it takes about 35 min.
How horrible.
I've lived in BR, Houston and Lafayette.
Lafayette "traffic" isnt bad even during congested times.

The part in Lafayette where Hwy 90 runs through the ghetto the roads are so awful.
This. The Evangeline Thruway is so bad.

Pinhook, between the Vermillion River and Evangeline Thruway, has to be the narrowest 4 lane road in the world.

100% correct.
Lafayette is horrible, even by Louisiana standards.

You mean the section where doped up/drunk pedestrians get killed every week trying to cross the thruway? If only the main portion of the roadway were elevated...
I can't prove anything, but I believe that whole scam was a distraction drummed up by the property owners.

Oh yeah, Lafayette sucks to drive in.
The problem is exactly as you state it, it comes down to entitlement.
They all feel as if they're situation is the only one that matters on the road.
Plus you have an administration that is more concerned about everything looking pretty than actually solving the issues....
