Sorry for the loss of your friend.

It's difficult to process how drug use and the accompanying deaths have become so normal. The laws against drug use are having very little effect on the supply side of the illegal business. I wish our society would legalize recreational drugs so that they could be regulated properly. Until that happens we're going to continue to see posts such as the OP's. So sad.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Opioid addiction is a plague on this country.

I’ve lost a few friends and many aquaintences to the opiate epidemic. I’ve been around drug users all my life and I’ve never seen anything like it. It really is crazy how it affects people of all races and demographs. I’m glad I never really cared for opiates because I’ve abused pretty much everything at some point but opiates were never really my thing. I thank God for that because I’d surely be the type addict to die from it.

Sorry for your loss OP.

Had a friend OD 5 or so years ago. He was a really good genuine guy. It took everyone by surprise.

There was a thread recently on the OT asking how many people know someone that has OD'd on heroin/opioids and surprisingly to me (or maybe not, because of the OT's nature to be awesome and condescending) barely anybody said yes. It was met with the usual "you should find better friends.".

This shite is happening closer to home than most think.

Sorry for your loss and everyone on her who have lost friends and relatives in this way. But, you know people have choices in life and we can all talk about addictions as diseases and illnesses but the bottom line is drug usage is a selfish action.

THERE IS NO DAMN EXCUSE TO USE DRUGS OR TO ABUSE ALCOHOL. NONE. THERE IS TOO MUCH INFORMATION AND THERE ARE TOO MANY PROGRAMS IN SCHOOLS SUCH AS DARE AND THROUGH PUBLIC SERVICES, COMMUNITY ACTIONS ETC. FOR ANYONE TO JUST STUMBLE INTO DRUG USAGE. AT SOME POINT THEY MADE A CONSCIOUS DECISION TO TAKE A SUBSTANCE THAT EVERYONE KNOWS CAN HAVE DISASTROUS CONSEQUENCES WITHOUT REGARD FOR HOW THOSE ACTIONS MIGHT ULTIMATELY AFFECT OTHERS.

THESE PEOPLE ARE CHEATING THE SYSTEM, TRYING TO GET OVER, SPITTING IN THE FACE OF THOSE WHO RESPECT THE LAWS OF THIS COUNTRY AND THE DANGERS DRUGS AND ALCOHOL PRESENT TO ONESELF AND OTHERS.

THIS IS NOT AN ABSTRACT OPINION, I HAVE LIVED WITH AND DEALT WITH ADDICTION BY THOSE CLOSE TO ME. THEY WILL MANIPULATE YOU AND SPIN YOU TO CONVINCE YOU THEY ARE THE VICTIMS OF SOME INSIDIOUS DEMON WHICH IS CUNNING, BAFFLING AND POWERFUL. WRONG. THEY MADE POOR DECISIONS AND REFUSE TO PLAY BY THE RULES THE REST OF US RESPECT.

Sorry for your loss man. I just lost a good friend last week to the same thing. He moved out of state about 4 years ago and struggled with opioids for a long time. Nobody knew that he started doing H. I spoke to his mom the other night and she told me that his 3yr old girl is having a hard time understanding what death means. It's frickin sad.

I didnt read your post because of all of the CAPS.

Serious question....did you think the CAPS would make you sound more serious? More important?

All it does is turn people off.

No, if you are so turned off then don't read it, but maybe you miss an important point.

I wanted to emphasize the point that we as society too often just placidly accept this as the norm , excuse their actions as addictions instead of poor choices and disrespect for the rule of law and their obligations and responsibilities to society.

My purpose was to make the point enough is enough. We as a society and country are the victims of their decisions whether it is economically, emotionally or spiritually.

I'm afraid you don't really understand the concept of genetic predisposition and gene expression that adversely affects 15% of the world's population.

You can believe whatever you want, but you should also consider the possibility you may be wrong. Mental diseases are literally impossible to understand from an unaffected brain's perspective.

BUT YOU KEEP ON PREACHING, GOD.

Actually my argument is quite strong and thank you for giving me the premise to present it.

Whether legal or not the abuse of alcohol is still a conscious decision and those poor decisions affect others as well as themselves. It may be borne by their spouse, children, parents or other loved ones in the form of economic, costs, broken homes, domestic abuse and disruption of the quality of lives of others.

Externally it may result in vehicle accidents, negative work performance, and altercations or disruptions to the quality of the lives of others which may lead to criminal prosecution.

Trust me I know everything you are stating. I have lived through it and there might be some small element of truth. Again, though no one forced anyone into illegal drug usage and there is so much information presented that no one just stumbles into it without having been exposed to anti drug messsaging.

Even if we concede a small percentage of people are genetically predisposed to alcoholism at some point they become aware they have a problem. For most of them they know their usage may be outside the norm and they have the opportunity to address it before it gets totally unmanageable.

For those who finally identify their alcoholism for what it is there are many sources of help. Once again they have choices when those compulsions arise. They can call others who have been there or seek professional assistance. CHOICES. We all have to make them on a daily basis in one sense or another. Its called living, not as deity but as lawful and responsible people.

We lost our son a year ago tomorrow to this scourge.

Coroner showed us the drug panel...no human could have survived the amount of fentanyl and other stuff in the mix.

WHY?

I saw in the obits that Pepper Rutland lost his son this week.

I hate this so much.
