You have no idea what your cat is doing out there. You aren't supervising it. It's completely careless as an animal owner to do this for plenty of reasons. Some people have animal allergies, they don't want cats all over their stuff. It's an animal, it doesn't know that scratching the hell out of cars/houses/etc is bad. It could be tearing up people's gardens/flowers/yard work.

It is your responsibility to make sure it doesn't do that and you aren't living up to that bargain by just randomly releasing it. You have a complete lack of consideration for your animal and your neighbors, but lay the blame on us for wanting to get rid of an issue that you have created by just releasing it to do whatever the frick it wants...

Good luck. Cats are nearly impossible to trap.

I disagree.

All you need are the following items:

Food
A large laundry basket
A candlestick
Rope
Beer

Step 1: Place food under large laundry basket.
Step 2: Use candlestick to prop laundry basket up.
Step 3: Tie rope to candlestick.
Step 4: Drink beer until prey arrives.
Step 5: Pull rope when cat walks under laundry basket, causing candlestick to no longer support basket. This traps the cat.

Sometimes the bigger cats can escape, so it might be best to duct tape some bricks or some shite to the top of the basket to give it extra weight.

I learned this by trapping three cats in college so I could let them loose in my roommate's bedroom because I am an a-hole.

Cmon wink. That post makes complete sense.

Still don't get why the law would get involved except to fine the hunters for not having cat tags. Don't they have better things to do?

I am not the one whining, I take care of my issues. You guys need the cheese to go with that animal cruelty nonsense.

I wouldn't kill cats for sport, but let's not go crazy and say they are as good as dogs.

Cats, for the most part, kinda suck.

this is kinda sick if its neighborhood pets. If its feral cats then they need to be eliminated, but i dont agree with the posing for pictures thing

Yep. If they are feral, I have no problem with killing cats. Cats do a lot of damage to native ecosystems.

However, in the article it seems that these are some lady's pets. Sucks. But I for one hate finding cat prints on my vehicle from neighborhood cats, and know of many pet cats that go to neighbors to defecate. So, keep your cats inside or something.

You are saying your cat stays in your yard? Doubtful

For the most part, yes. There or inside. If you don't believe that then oh well I guess. And I specifically acknowledged that sometimes he didn't.

How? A cat can't be trained to stay in the yard

My cat wasn't keen on adventuring away from the house. He was an inside cat for the early portion of his life. Again, I can't make you believe it if it is simply your desire to dismiss it.

While most don't mind your cat is in their yard, I would bet that if they had a choice they would rather not have your cat in their yard

Lol. Presumptions about someone else's neighbors you don't know. More invalid argumentation.

If dogs are supposed to be kept on a leash why are cats allowed to roam free?

Because they are very different animals with different behavioral and intrinsic characteristics. Like I said, I don't raise a stink about a dog coming across my yard every now and again either. If they are destroying property or are dangerous and destructive, that's when I would confront the owner or contact animal control.

Cats kill more than one billion birds each year

Domestic cats kill many more wild birds in the United States than scientists thought, according to a new analysis. Cats may rank as the biggest immediate danger that living around people brings to wildlife, researchers say.

SMALL HUNTERS, BIG PROBLEM Cats may be killing far more birds each year than previously thought, as well as substantial numbers of mammals, says a new analysis based on hunting studies from around the world (cat shown with European robin).

America’s cats, including housecats that adventure outdoors and feral cats, kill between 1.3 billion and 4.0 billion birds in a year, says Peter Marra of the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in Washington, D.C., who led the team that performed the analysis. Previous estimates of bird kills have varied, he says, but “500 million is a number that has been thrown around a lot.”

You are making the same presumptions by releasing your cat and believing that your neighbors don't mind it walking through their yard. I mean did you go around the entire area where you cat could be roaming and ask for permission for your cat to use their yard?

Let me pose this question. If the cats were outside cats and constantly on your property crapping mating etc. Would it be ok to shoot them? If I left my dogs outside and they roamed the neighborhood I couldn't get too mad if a neighbor shot them.

Well the obvious fact of the matter is that cats and dogs are physically and behaviorally different. Dogs can not only much more easily be kept in a yard because they can't jump and climb like cats, but dogs are also much more likely to be physically dangerous and destructive, depending on the breed. If I could keep my cat only in the backyard I surely would.

If someone else's cats were constantly on your property causing oroblems, then obviously you would have a legitimate grievance with your neighbor. But simply stepping on property is not exactly a legitimate example of this, and it's clear that with a great number of people, this seems to constitute in their minds a great destructive nuisance justifying extermination.

And I'm equally against shooting dogs roaming the neighborhood. Again, I'm not a sick frick though. I'm not going to kill a domesticated animal, particularly one I know is likely someone's pet, unless they pose a physical danger or after addressing the neighbor or animal control first.

But you guys go on trying to justify killing domesticated animals as a first resort because they are a nuisance to you personally.

I would shoot you in the head before you could even pull the trigger because my dog is alot more valuable to me than you are and he's probably smarter than you as well. That's the big deal.

I'm saying it isn't an issue. You're acting like an outside cat is some kind of menace to society. And I'm laughing at you.
